General Notes: Husband - Major General William IRWIN

William IRWIN fought in the Indian wars and was an Alabama state senator.
Since at least 1733, the site along the Chattahoochee River that is now Eufaula was occupied by three Creek Indian tribes of the Muskogee Nation. One of these was the Eufaulas (pronounced "u-fall-uhs"). General William Irwin, a hero in the War of 1814, was granted several thousand acres of land in nearby Henry County. One of the most prosperous men in the area, Irwin served as its first state senator. He used his considerable influence to promote development in the area and established the first steamboat wharf along Eufaula's high river bluffs. This set the stage for the town's rise to prominence as a center of trade. The town was renamed "Irwinton" in his honor. Source: <http://www.eufaulapilgrimage.com/eufaula.html>)

David is presumed to have died before Jun 1850 when his wife, Hannah, 32, and three children, David S., 10, Garland, 7, and Rebecca, 5, reside in the household of Rebecca LUCAS in Chapel Hill.

General Notes: Wife - Hannah S. GARLAND

Hannah GARLAND was the wife of David GARLAND. She was apparently widowed before the 1850 census when she and her three children live in the household of Rebecca LUCAS in Orange County, North Carolina. There is an interesting association of names about her, leading to speculations about possible family ties. Hannah continues to live in Rebecca's home in 1860, and Hannah's daughter, Rebecca, 5, will marry in 1869 James Billingslea MITCHELL of Glennville, Alabama, a graduate of the University of North Carolina. His relation, if any to this neighboring MITCHELL family in 1850 is not known.

SULLIVAN

The memorial presents this obituary:
Edna Virginia Sullivan, 94, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at her home in Surfside Beach. Born in Fairfax, VA, Edna was the daughter of the late Charles and Rose Garner. She was named after the nurse that cared for her wounded father during World War I. Shortly after returning from the war, Edna's father became ill and passed away when she was only six years old. Her mother married Seymour Wean and they raised Edna on several different farms in Virginia. Following graduation, Edna worked several different jobs before a bookkeeper's position at a local dairy. It was there that she met Charlie, her husband to be for over 60 years. Shortly after marriage Edna gave birth to her first son Chuck and then four and a half years later to her second son Ken. She embraced her role as housewife but most especially her role as a mother. During her early years, Edna enjoyed sewing and taking walks with her husband and family dogs. Later on she enjoyed working puzzles, going to shows or just relaxing on her porch with a glass of wine. After moving to South Carolina in 1993, Edna began to travel more. She went on many cruises and spent her 50th Anniversary in Hawaii. Although Edna was a quite [sic] person, she was a good listener and could talk your ears off once she got started. She always put her family's needs ahead of her own. No one could have asked for a better wife, mother or person. We will never forget her. In addition to her parents Edna is predeceased by her loving husband, Charles T. Sullivan, Sr., sisters, Ruth Lieber, Mary Boucher, Paula Baker and her step father, Seymour Wean. Survivors include her sons, Chuck Sullivan and Ken Sullivan, Surfside Beach; step sisters, Evelyn Whitmore, Manassas, VA; Helen Helsel, Chillicothe, OH. Services will be held in Stonewall Memorial Gardens, Manassas, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Beacon Hospice, 3959 Hwy. 17 Bypass, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. Notes: Marriage

Charles Timothy Sullivan married Virginia Garner on 5 February 1954 in Arlington, County, Virginia, in the Ev. United Brethern Church in Arlington. Arthur L. Maiden, minister, officiated. Charles, age 26, son of Charles C. Sullivan and Eloine Dean, was born in Washington, D.C. He was a salesman residing in Arlington. Virginia, age 25, daughter of Charles Raymong Garner and Rosa Lee Whitmer, was born in Fairfax, Virginia. She was a clerk residing in Arlington. [Certificate of Marriage, Arlington County, Virginia, Certificate 3488, Clerk's number: 153, 5 February 1954]

NOTE: Virginia was eight years older than Charles. The family story is that she was afraid he would not marry her if he knew she was older, so she lied! There was, I'm told, a bit of an uproar when he found out years later. Obviously, the marriage survived. [Michael Sullivan]

General Notes: Husband - Llewellin THREEWITS, RS-SC

Llewellin THREEWITS was a son of Captain Joel THREEWITS, who died during the Revolution. Llewellin had himself been a soldier of the Revolution, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He served under Capt. William GOODWYN at McCord's Ferry in 1781, later under Major Robert LYELL at Orangeburgh in 1781, and as adjutant to Col. Thomas TAYLOR in 1782.
Ninety-Six District: North Side of the Saluda River PLAT BOOK B 1785-1787 This volume contains Plats for Land Along the French Broad and Alabama or Mobile Rivers and their Tributaries, which, since 1787, has not been within the boundaries of South Carolina.
County Records Division, South Carolina Department of Archives and History, page 401, THREEWITS, Llewellin.
Llewellin and his brother, John, were representatives of Saxe-Gotha to the South Carolina Constitutional convention. Both voted against ratifying the new Constitution as recorded in this vote: FRIDAY, May 23, 1788. On motion, Resolved, That this Convention do assent to and ratify the Constitution agreed to on the 17th day of September last, by the Convention of the United States of America, held at Philadelphia. On the question being put to agree to the same, the yeas and nays were called for by the unanimous voice of the Convention, and are as follows: -- District of Saxe-Gotha. -- Yea: Hon. Henry PENDLETON. 1. -- Nays: Hon. Richard HOMPTON, J. CULPEPER, William FITZPATRICK, Llewellen THREEWITS, John THREEWITS, Wade HAMPTON. 6. Two hundred and twenty-two representatives attended the session, with 140 voting in favor and 73 voting against. The resolution was adopted by a majority of 67 votes.
In the 1790 census of North Orangeburg, South Carolina, Llewellin THREEWITS' household is shown as 4 1 3 - 17, meaning 4 male 16 or over, 1 male under 16, 3 females, and 17 slaves. Llewellin was married to Eleanor FITZPATRICK at this time. They had a son, Llewellin Williamson, born in 1789. That accounts for some of his household, but who were the other 3 males, 16 or over, and the other 2 females? (M637, R11, P383)
After his death about 1796 his widow, Mrs. Eleanor THREEWITS, married Capt. John THOMAS in 1800.
Note regarding Emily GEIGER and a purported marriage to a THREEWITS: "Descendants of both Geigers and Threewits have been arguing about "who Emily married" for well over a century! Some branches believe that she'd married Llewellin Threewits, although she certainly did not. He was married to Ann Mary Geiger as of 1786, had his only child by second wife Eleanor Fitzpatrick in 1789. No time to work in another wedding in that same year." (Harriet Imrey, email, 12/07/2004)

General Notes: Wife - Epps Davis THREEWITS

Epsy Davis is named as a daughter in the 1818 Will of her father, Joel THREEWITS.

Epps Davis THREEWITS was a legatee of Mrs. Mary PHELPS, in her 19 February 1816 LW&T. An abstract of Mary's will indicates she was Kesia's maternal grandmother. Mary PHELPS also names her daughter Lucretia (PHELPS) THREEWITS, Joel THREEWITS (Lucretia's husband), and Lucretia's daughters Lucy Vaughn LOVEMAN (LOWERMAN?), and Kesia Ann Ross THREEWITS. (NOTE: Names in parentheses ARE NOT in the text, my interpretations only. RLD)

Epps Davis THREEWITS, daughter of Joel THREEWITS and niece of Maj. John THREEWITS, married William GEIGER after January 21, 1818, the date of her father's will which shows her to have been single at that time. (A.S. Salley)
The best-documented Threewits/GEIGER marriage is the one you've already listed. Here are a few more dates and children, per the 1945 Percy Geiger book, "Geigers of South Carolina". This book includes several known errors, but these are apparently correct (Harriet Imrey):
Epps Davis Threewits (1801-1858), daughter of Joel THREEWITS and Josephine LOVE, married in 1829 William GEIGER (1802-1854, buried in Tyler Field cemetery). He was the son of William GEIGER (1773-1855) and Margaret KERSH (1782-1852). Their children were:
1. William GEIGER, MD (1831 - aft. 1921), m. Annie GARDNER
2. Emily GEIGER (13 Sep 1836 - 16 Jan 1894), m. Dr. J. L. REID (1828-1857)
3. Mary GEIGER, m. Arthur REESE
4. Adam GEIGER, m. Mary CARTER
5. Louise GEIGER, m. Samuel LORICK
6. David GEIGER, m. Laura WHITTLE of Edgefield.
