General Notes: Husband -
Robert Tucker DANIELL, son of Jesse DANIELL and Mary A. TUCKER, was born 17 December 1823, probably in Baldwin County, Georgia. His date of birth was part of the Family Record "from the Holy Bible printed in 1816" in his mother's 1878 Widow's Pension Application, certified to the court to be genuine by Daniel R. TUCKER, an officer of the court and Mary's brother.
On July 24th, 1847, Robert DANIEL became a member "by Experience" of the Liberty Baptist Church in Wilkinson County, Georgia. Robert T. DANIEL is named on Oct. 23rd 1847 among those who recieved letters. On February 4th 1854, Robert T. DANIEL was named on the list of those to be excommunicated. (http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/wilkinson/churches/liberty.txt)
In an apparent double entry in either the Bible or in his mother's Widow's Pension Application, "R. T. DANIELL was married to Mary J. KINNEY Sept 15th 1850" and "Robert T. DANIELL was married to Mary J. FINNEY [sic] 14th Sept 1850."
The History of Wilkinson County, Georgia, p. 314, lists the marriages of "Robert I. DANIEL" to "Nancy I. KINNEY" on Sept 12, 1850, by John L. STEPHENS, J. P. and William H. DANIEL, believed to be Robert's brother, to Sarah Ann SHENHOLSER, on Mar. 30, 1852 by Wright NOLES, J. P. Ten years later in 1860, Wilkinson County, Robert and Mary J. DANIEL have a daughter Mary S. age 9. Two homes away is William H. and Sarah Ann DANIEL with daughter Mary M, age 6.
In a paragrah about the family of Robert T. DANIEL is the comment "Born after 1860 was Violet who married Loderick JONES." (Wilkinson County Georgia Historical collection, p. 318)

DANIEL, 35, and William H., 32, two doors away in 1860 in Wilkinson County, Georgia appear to be they. Both resided in Wilkison County in 1880. Robert has been found with the initial "T." and "L." in other records, and it may be of interest to note the "S." middle initial of three of Robert and Mary J.'s children and of his brother Augustus. Variances in middle initials have been found in transcriptions for several members of this family, misreads of original handwriting?

In 1900, Robert T. DANIELL, 77, widowed, lives in the home of his son, Elijah Leroy, in Pulaski County, Georgia. Robert is not in 1910 census and presumed died before 1910.
General Notes: Wife -
Mary Jane KINNEY was a daughter of James William KINNEY and Serena KING of Wilkinson County, Georgia. Mary may have been known as "Nancy." Family researchers list her as "Nancy KINNEY, born September 10, 1826." but do not list a sister "Mary Jane." Her marriage record listed in the History of Wilkinson County names her as "Nancy I. KINNEY" while four censuses name her as Mary.
Serena King KINNEY's half-brother, James B. KING of Wilkerson County, mentions Serena's children Mary and her brother George Washington KINNEY in his LW&T.
James KING, 9/29/1842: After the death of my mother, property to be divided between Washington KINNEY, Mary KINNEY and Lucinda BOURLAND.

Mary J. KINEY [sic] became a member of the Liberty Baptist Church "by Experience" on July 30th, 1846.
In 1850 Wilkinson County, Georgia, Mary, age 18, born about 1832, lives with Serena KINNEY, her widowed mother. 1850 U.S. Census, Georgia, Wilkinson County; Series: M432 Roll: 87 Page: 355: 261 261 Serena KINNEY 55 F Farming 700 GA; George 23 M Farming GA; Elijah KINNEY 21 M Farming GA; Mary 18 F GA.
The History of Wilkinson County, Georgia, p. 314, lists the marriage of "Robert I. DANIEL" to "Nancy I. KINNEY" on Sept 12, 1850, by John L. STEPHENS, J. P. Her marriage to Robert Tucker DANIELL, son of Jesse DANIELL and Mary Ann TUCKER, is apparently listed twice in his mother's Widow's Pension Application, "R. T. DANIELL was married to Mary J. KINNEY Sept 15th 1850" and "Robert T. DANIELL was married to Mary J. FINNEY [sic] 14th Sept 1850."
In 1860 Robert T.'s wife, Mary J. is 28, born about 1832, in 1870 Mary is 33, born about 1837, and in 1880, Mary J. is 47, born about 1833.
"In 1880 Mary Kinney Daniel was living in the home of Loderick Jones." (Wilkinson County Georgia Historical Collections, p. 318)Elsewhere in this book is a mention of Mary's daughter Viola who married Loderick. Curiously, T9 Roll: 172 Page 372, the 1880 census of Wilkinson lists Mary with her huband Robert T.
Notes: Marriage
"R. T. DANIELL was married to Mary J. KINNEY Sept 15th 1850" was recorded in the Widow's Pension Application of Mary A. DANIEL and certified as from a family Bible entry by Daniel R. TUCKER, Judge of the Inferior Court of Baldwin County, Georgia, and Mary A.'s brother. Another record indicates "Robert T. DANIELL was married to Mary J. FINNEY 14th Sept 1850" KINNEY believe to be correct. In the 1860 census of Wilkinson County, Georgia, Robert and Mary J. are next door neighbors to Mary J.'s brother, Elijah KINNEY, 31, and family.

Samuel C. DANIELL, born 23 October 1832, was a son of James Levi DANIELL and Elizabeth Clements BUTTS of Hancock County, Georgia. His family moved to Glennville, Alabama in 1835. His middle name is given as "Colinsworth" by one researcher, but no such record has been found. "Clements" is also a possibility, but again, nothing found.
Samuel's father died in 1846. In 1850, Americus Columbus MITCHELL, son of James L.'s sister, Catherine b. DANIELL and Julius C. B. MITCHELL, became Guardian ad Litem to Samuel C., his brother, John Levi, and sister, Juliet A. DANIELL . He filed a schedule of property for Samuel to Probate Court on 28 April 1851 showing:
Judge a negro boy appraised at $700.00

Harriet a girl " $500.00
Andrew a boy " $225.00

QUESTION: Is Robert's wife, Sarah DANIEL, the sister of Samuel C. DANIEL living next door to her brother?

"Robert H. "Robert Moulthrop married first Sarah Daniel, one of the most beautiful women in this section, who was the daughter of James Daniel, a distinguished citizen of Macon, Georgia. To them was born Robert H.(Moulthrop). Following his father, in Masonic interests, he early joined Harmony Lodge F. A. A. A petition for Letters of Administration on Samuel C. DANIEL's estate records that he died "about the 20th day of 1893." He appears to have died before 19 May 1891 when "the widow, Samuel C. General Notes: Wife -
"Larrah A." LAWRENCE is age 9, born in Alabama, living with her parents Joseph LAWRENCE and Elizabeth PITTS, in the 1850 census of Henry County, Alabama.
Laura married Samuel C. DANIELL about 1858. She and Samuel had ten children.
On 22 July 1893, Laura L. DANIEL, is named as an heir to Samuel C. DANIEL in S. G. ROBERTSON's petition for Letters of Administration on her husband's estate. (Barbour County, Alabama Orphans Book 27, p. 186)
In the 1900 U.S. Census, Laura L. DANIEL (sic), 58, is listed in Eufaula, Barbour County, Alabama in the household of her son, Samuel, 35. Sam is single and his mother and two brothers, Lawrence, 21, and Willis B., 20 complete the household.
In 1910 she living with a son, W. H. L. DANIELL, 39, in Barbour County, Alabama. Also in the home is her son, "Jim L.", and a cousin, Will L. CARTER. (Is CARTER a clue to Laura A.'s maiden name?) "Laura Mother F W 69 Wd - 10 6 AL GA GA" indicates she has had 10 children, 6 still living in 1910. Names of seven children have been found.
Laura has not yet been found in the 1920 census.
Laura A. DANIEL, of Batesville, Alabama, is named as an heir of her son, W. H. L. DANIEL, in a petition for Letters of Administration on his estate filed by his brother, Samuel C. DANIEL, on 5 June 1924.
On her death certificate, Laura L. DANIELS [sic], born about 1841 in Alabama was the daughter of Joseph LAURENCE [sic] and Elizabeth PITTS, both born in Georgia. Laura, a resident of Eufaula, died in Beteville [sic] Junction, Barbour, Alabama on 22 June 1925 at age 84 and was buried in Eufaula, Alabama. There is one curious entry on the certificate. "Spouse's Name: Winslow S.C." An informant is not listed. [Family Search Film Number: 1908271, Reference Number: cn 12872, Collection: Alabama Deaths, 1908-1974]

General Notes: Husband -
This short biography of James TAYLOR is in Edwin L. Green's A History of Richland County South Carolina::
"JAMES TAYLOR James TAYLOR's date of birth is unknown; his death took place in August, 1806. He married Mary HIRONS April 5, 1768, and after her death April 22, 1772, he married December of the same year Sarah DANIEL, daughter of James DANIEL, who died December 6, 1793. His home was near the intersection of Washington and Marion Streets. At this time a bold spring was near by, the water of which flowed down Marion to Taylor Street and thence to Harden Street and Rocky Branch. During the Revolution,, according to Johnson's Traditions, he took the oath of allegiance, but later, considering that the British had broken faith, he joined the patriots and was captured and would have been put to death had it not been for the false swearing of a neighbor. No record, however, shows this story to be true. Capt. James TAYLOR was commissary under Sumter and was stationed at the Congarees. At the census of 1790 he was the richest slaveholder in Richland County, being credited with 160 slaves. He was a commissioner in 1791 for the government of Columbia and was later a justice of the quorum for Richland County."
James TAYLOR recorded a deed on Jan. 14, 1771 for 150 acres between Horse Branch and the Congaree River. Names indexed in this deed are Ann HADDINGHA, Hester PESHEW, Casper FAUST, Henry WEAVER, Henry SEESTRUNK.
There is apparently no record on file of James TAYLOR's service during the Revolutionary War, but he is often referred to as in charge of the commissary, especially at the Congarees. He signed documents as assistant State commissary. (Green, "History of Richland County", p. 103-4.)
"After the Revolutionary War a strong feeling developed throughout the state that the seat of the state government should be changed from Charleston to a more central location. Many sites were discussed and in March, 1786 the General Assembly passed an Act providing for removal of the South Carolina capital from Charleston to a site "near Friday's Ferry on the Congaree River, including the plain of the hill whereon Thomas and James Taylor, Esquires, now reside". One reason for the choice of this location was that it was practically the geographical center of the state; another, that the head of the Congaree River had long been recognized as the natural gateway to the Up Country." ("A Guide to Columbia: South Carolina's capital city" by Jane Kealhofer Simons, page 11.)
In the 1790 census, Richland County, South Carolina, Series: M637 Roll: 11 Page: 140, James TAYLOR's household is shown as "1 3 4 - 160". He lives next door to his brother Thomas TAYLOR. In addition, he shown as executor on three estates: Wm. TUCKER, Thomas DORTCH, and John TAYLOR.

Alfo 100 acres, adjoining the above, both originally granted to John Fairchild. [The City Gazette, Charleston, South Carolina, Wednesday, March 9, 1796, Page: 2]

Their father, another John TAYLOR, b. ca. 1723, migrated from VA in 1754 to the east bank of the Congaree River, 10 miles south of Columbia, SC. The 3rd brother was James TAYLOR who married both Sarah's sister, Mary HIRONS, & Sarah DANIELL." (Taylor info: http://www.geocities.com/bcvsmith/ 19 April 2002)
James TAYLOR who died in August 1806, married (1) Mary HIRONS (died April 21, 1772) on April 5, 1768. After Mary's death, James married (2) Sarah DANIEL on December 2, 1772. (http://www.palmettoroots.org/RichlandFamilies.html)

General Notes: Wife -
Sarah DANIELL, born 4 May 1756, is a daughter of James O'DANIEL of Fairfax County, Virginia. James migrated to South Carolina circa 1754, dropped the O' from his name, and spelled it DANIELL. Sarah is named in James DANIELL's Bible transcription published in the The History of Hancock County, Georgia. Sarah married Captain James TAYLOR, becoming his second wife.
Sarah died 6 December 1793, only three weeks after giving birth to her seventh child, her namesake, Sarah, born 15 November 1793. Doubly tragic, her daughter died soon after in 1794.
Sarah and her husband are named in her father's Last Will & Testament in Hancock County, Georgia in 1797. "Pages 284-286: Will of James DANIELL of Hancock County ...to the heirs of my daughter Sarah and James TAYLOR.... James DANIELL (SEAL), dated May 11, 1797. Wit: Wm. BIGGINS, Wm. JONES, James H. (Parenthetical information added by Robert Louis Daniell)
Sarah Elizabeth DANIELL married Edward M. WALKER on 13 January 1858 in Glennville, Russell County, Alabama. [A conflicting record says married in neighboring Barbour County.] Their daughter, Kate C., age 1, is named in the 1860 census of Covington County, Alabama.
Between 1860 and 1891, no records for Sarah or her family have been found. Sarah died before 19 May 1891 when "Heirs of Sallie WALKER, Coufman[?], Texas" are named as heirs of James L. DANIEL in a filing with Barbour County, Alabama Probate Court. From this. it is apparent that Sarah likely had additional children or her daughter Kate had children who were in Texas by 1891. The names of these heirs in Texas have not been discovered.

RESEARCH: NOTHING YET PROVES THIS IS SARAH ELIZABETH DANIELL, the widow WALKER! Only that a descendant of a Sarah Walker was in Kaufman County, Texas at some point.

General Notes: Husband -
Charles Loyd DANIELL, Sr., at his home in Interlachen, Florida on April 26, 2005, told Robert Louis DANIELL that FLOWERS is the surname of the man said to have fathered Hughie DANIELL, son of Sarah Ellen DANIELL.
General Notes: Wife -
Sarah Ellen DANIEL, called "Ellen" was born 28 May 1870 in Thomas County, Georgia. She was a daughter of James Henry DANIELL and Mary Ann Eliza RICE.
Sarah Ellen is named as "Henrietta 1/12 F GA" in Greenfield District, Colquitt County, Georgia. Why "Henrietta" is on this census list is unknown. Perhaps the baby had not yet been named and was at least temporarily Henrietta. Her age, one month, matches the known birth of Sarah Ellen.
In the 1880 census, Ellen's parents, indexed under "Henry DANIEL," live in Brooks County, Georgia. To this compiler, she is named as "Hinnie (Henny?) 8 W F Dau S GA GA GA", although there is discussion among family that the name on the census sheet could be "Minnie." When "Henrietta" became Sarah Ellen is not known, but in the 1900 census "Ellen" lives in Jacksonville, Florida with her brother, Americus, known as "Joe", and their widowed mother. The 1900 entry is indexed as "DANIELS, Americus".
The 1910 census shows her as S. Ellen, 29, single, living in Duval County, Florida still in the home of her brother, A. M. "Joe" DANIELL, 47, with Mary E., mother, 75, widow, and James I., brother, single, 43.
In the 1920 census, Ellen is named as Sallie E., sister, 49, single, and lives on a farm in Ortega, Duval County, Florida with her brother James I. DANIELL, 52, single. They have no others in their household listed on lines 68 and 69, Series: T625 Roll: 219 Page: 201. The surname is oddly written "Dasiell," not indexed as Daniell, Daniel, or Daniels, but is without doubt this brother and sister.
Sarah Ellen, who never married, is known by family and neighbors in Duval County to have had a son, Hughie, who lived with her and her brother James I. DANIELL on his dairy farm in Orange Park, Florida. Charles Loyd DANIELL, Ellen's nephew, recalled that a man named FLOWERS was Hughie's father. However, in 1920, Ellen is 49 years old and does not yet have Hughie listed with her in any census 1920 or earlier.
In the 1945 Florida Population Census, Duval County, Pct 26, Hugh DANIELL is a head of a household consisting of his mother Ellen, aged 75, and Verlon Barbaran., parents not known, perhaps Hughie's daughter? Under the heading "Degree of Education," Hugh has "None"; Verlon is in 2nd grade; and Ellen had a 4th grade education. Lines 15 to 17 list:

On September 28, 2002 in Orange Park, I spoke with Mr. Tom Keene who was 76 years old and lived on Cemetery Road, a few houses south of Smith Cemetery. When I asked about the cemetery and the Daniells buried there, he said he knew of the Daniell family and knew Jim Daniell. From his front yard, Tom pointed out where the Daniell's farm and dairy barn used to stand. He told me that Jim and his wife, Ellen, were buried there in the cemetery. Asked about calling Ellen "James' wife", Tom said everyone thought that they were married. He was surprised to learn that they were brother and sister. He recalled knowing Ellen's son "Hoodie" and spoke of his having gone to California, marrying and divorcing there and Hoodie's return to Jacksonville, and selling the farm after James DANIELL died. Tom stated that Ellen was buried in this cemetery, but many graves there were unmarked, likely why I found James' grave but not Ellen's. (Robert Louis Daniell) 2600

Tony worked for the Atlantic Coast Line Rail Road. He lived in the Carolinas and married Julia O. McARTHUR. Some family recollections name her as a McCORMICK, but in the 1920 census, T. J. DANIELS, 30, is an Atlantic Coastline Rail Road Agent in Sampson County, North Carolina. His wife is Julia O., 25, and with them is Julia's sister, Minnie McARTHUR, 20, and single. Curiously, everyone on this census page and their parents were born in North Carolina. Tony was born in Thomas County, Georgia.

William A. DANIELL and his brother, Jesse D., and sister, Mary L., are named in the household of their Uncle and guardian, Hugh ARMSTRONG and family in the 1910 census. Hugh F. is the brother of their mother, Sarah Armstrong DANIELL.

Over the course of his life, William's surname became DANIEL and DANIELS. William is buried next to his father in the DANIELL family plot in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery in Bleckley County. His headstone reads: "WILLIAM ANDERSON//DANIELS, SR.// AUG. 12, 1889//NOV. 3, 1930"
The DANIELL family headstones in Bleckley County reveal a most interesting evolution of the family surname within a single generation. Of Elijah and Sallie Daniell's three sons, two are buried near Elijah Leroy DANIELL, Sr., in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery, Elijah, Jr. as DANIELL, William Anderson as DANIELS, and the third is buried in the Antioch United Methodist Cemetery, Jesse Damascus as DANIEL.

William Franklin Daniell was known as "Willie."
Jean Porter Daniell wrote, "Willie graduated from "The Univ. of the South"---Sewanee Univ. at Sewanee, TN...up on the mountain here in my county, Franklin Co., TN. It is a private Episcopal Liberal Arts college...and well known as a "drinking" college....Willie(or Bill Daniell, as they called him there) learned how to drink there and was in later years an alcoholic....about 10 years ago, he was found dead in the woods near his Atlanta, GA apt...badly decomposed body....having been out in the woods for approx. 6 wks in cold weather...."alcohol-related death"... This was very sad. I was in Port St. Joe, FL at my Uncle Emmette Daniell's home when my Uncle Arnold was trying to get his son Willie to agree to go into a place to get help and that he would pay for it. I remember being so disturbed when I heard Willie say, "I don't have a drinking problem!!" When we all knew that he did and it was so obvious...he had a bottle hid in his car and kept going out to the car! I was also there when they spread his ashes at the ball field at Sewanee Univ. He was my 1st cousin and he grew up playing with my brother, Jim, who was about the same age.. Jim is 8 yrs. older than I am..(Jim was born 10/20/1943) they were just a few months apart.. Willie married Lindsey Thomas, whom he met at Sewanee, TN. They had one son named Gywan. They divorced due to his drinking, etc. (Redacted section, see research notes. RLD) Gywan was only a toddler when they divorced. I wish that he knew about his Daniell history!!! I'm glad to have this avenue to tell about BILL DANIELL'S only child!!! Please add Gywan to your DANIELL'S... He should be between 25 and 30 years old now (2004)...Gywan's grandfather was Arnold, his great-grandfather was John Frank Daniell..(Everyone called him Frank)...Ulmer and Frank, as you well know, were brothers...."

NOTE, 7 October 2008: A conflicting assignment of William H. DANIEL of Wilkinson County, Georgia is resolved.
William Harper DANIEL, born 23 May 1827, son of Jesse DANIELL (nee AUSTON) and Mary Ann TUCKER of Baldwin County, Georgia married Sarah Ann HATCHER, widow of George W. SHINHOLSTER of Wilkinson County, Georgia.
William H. DANIEL of 1860 Wilkinson County is not William Henry DANIEL, born 17 September 1826, son of Samuel DANIEL and Elizabeth Jane HOLLOWAY of Granville County, North Carolina. Three sources were presented by Suzanne Daniel Deetch to support the William Henry assignment: the Bible of Josiah DANIEL of Granville County, Joseph T. Maddox's "Wilkinson County Georgia Historical Records" and the 1880 U. S. Census of Wilkinson County, Georgia. The latter two show no connection to Samuel or any location other than Georgia. It must be noted that these sources were previously submitted to gain membership in three national societies, the D.A.R., Colonial Dames, CDXVII Century, and Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America. Unfortunately, the societies accepted the applications.
P. A. Miller of California, Rosalyn Daniel Sumner, and others provided valuable input and comments to the discussion on Rootsweb's Surname Daniel Message Board. The discussion is archived there in the thread "Josiah Daniel, where are his parents?"

Robert Louis Daniell
===
The assignment of William Harper DANIEL, as son of Jesse DANIELL (nee AUSTON), and Mary Ann TUCKER and husband of Sarah Ann HATCHER, the widow SHINHOLSTER is based on the research below, particularly:
the record of his birth on 23 May 1827;
the families of William and his brother, Robert Tucker DANIEL, being neighbors, one household apart in the 1860 census of Wilkinson County, Georgia, separated by Robert's brother-in-law, Elijah KINNEY;
the 1880 census of Wilkinson County listing William's son Robert F, age 3;
the 1900 census of Emanuel County, Georgia, listing "May 1827" as William DANIEL's birth month and year, listing his wife "Sallie" (Sarah), and their youngest child, Robert (Franklin), born Oct 1876, age 23, in his household;
the 1910 census of Emanuel County, listing Robert F., 33, as head, and his widowed father, William, age 88, 5 years older than expected;
the 1920 census of Emanuel County which names Robert as "Robert Franklin" age 44;
and in every census naming William, he is shown as born in Georgia, as are his parents in 1880, 1900, and 1910.
William Harper DANIELL was born 23 May 1827, probably in Baldwin County, Georgia, a son of Jesse DANIELL and Mary A. TUCKER. His name and date of birth are part of the Family Record "from the Holy Bible printed in 1816" in his mother's 1878 Widow's Pension Application, certified to the court to be genuine by Daniel R. TUCKER, an officer of the court and Mary's brother. Other than in this Bible, William is found in records as DANIEL, as are most of his father's descendants.
1850 U.S. Census, Georgia, Washington County, Division 91, 12 Nov 1850; Series: M432 Roll: 87 Page: 231: "William H. DANIEL 23 M W Overseer GA" is named in the household of Nathaniel WICKER, 25, GA, wife Sarah Ann L., 22, GA and son James T., one month, GA.
How might William Harper DANIEL have met and married Sarah Ann SHINHOLSTER?
A reasonable answer is suggested by church records published in "Wilkinson County Georgia Historical Collections" on p. 70. Sarah Ann, her parents, James and Sarah HATCHER, her husband, George W. SHINHOLSTER, Robert T. DANIEL [William Harper's brother] and Mary J. KINNEY's family were members of the same church, Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, founded 1837. After George's death in 1847, and Robert's marriage to Mary J. KINNEY, in 1850, William would have ample opportunity to be introduced to Sarah by his brother's family, resulting in their marriage in 1852. In addition, the 1850 Wilkinson census shows additional proximity of the families: Arthur Reese DANIELL, William Harper's brother, is named two households from James G. SHINHOLSTER's family and four households farther is that of the widow Mary SHINHOLSTER; and Daniel R. TUCKER, brother of William Harper's mother, Mary Ann Tucker DANIELL, is listed two households from James G. SHINHOLSTER and eight from the widow Mary SHINHOLSTER.
The History of Wilkinson County, Georgia, p. 314, lists the marriages of William H. DANIEL to Sarah Ann SHENHOLSER*, on Mar. 30, 1852 by Wright NOLES, J. P. and "Robert I. [sic, T.] DANIEL" to "Nancy I. [sic, Mary Ann? J.] KINNEY" on Sept 12, 1850, by John L. STEPHENS, J. P. Ten years later in 1860, Wilkinson County, William H. and Sarah Ann DANIEL with daughter Mary M, age 6. Two homes away is Robert and Mary J. DANIEL who have a 9 year old daughter, Mary S.
*Widow of George W. SHINHOLSTER.

General Notes: Wife -
Sarah Ann HATCHER, daughter of James HATCHER and Sarah Hardin CLAY, was born about 1831 as indicated from her age, 19, on the 1850 census and 28 on the 1860. She is listed as 44 in 1880. The 1900 census provides Oct 1837 and age 62 inconsistant with a marriage in 1846 at age 9. In another anomoly, the 1900 census provides that Sarah "Sallie" and her second husband, William DANIELS [sic] have been married 34 years but the marriage is recorded in the History of Wilkinson County as 1852, consistant with the 1860 census listing of their children.
Sarah married George W. SHINHOLSER, her first husband, on 3 March 1846 in the Liberty Baptist Church, Wilkinson County, Georgia.
Wilkinson County, Georgia Estate Records, Microfilm Roll #6930 is a continuation of Wilkinson County, Ga Estate Records: p. 610: "Rec'd the Eighth day of February Eighteen hundred and forty seven of Sarah HATCHER guardian for Sarah (Ann HATCHER) SHINHOLSER legatee of the Estate of James HATCHER, late of Wilkinson county deceased One hundred and fifty six dollars of all demands - - - my wife Sarah Ann SHINHOLSER. Liberty Baptist Church records list George's death on 16 August 1847.
In 1850, Sarah SHINHOLSTER, 19, widowed, and her daughter, Georgiana, 2, reside in the household of Sarah HATCHER, age 55, in Wilkinson.

Sarah Ann DANIEL, wife of William Harper DANIEL, is age 28 in the Wilkinson County, Georgia census. Georgia SHINHOLSER [sic], age 12, William's step-daughter, lives in their household.
In 1900, Sarah and William are in Emanuel County, Georgia. Sarah "Sallie" has had 10 children, eight still living, Robert Franklin, the youngest, is still with his parents.

Murry Gant LLOYD was also known as Murry Garrett LLOYD. He was born 6 May 1921 in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama, the eighth child of Fonza Euel LLOYD and Mary Lou DYESS.
(Childhood stories?)__________
He married Margaret Louise DANLEY on 26 March 1943 in Andalusia, Alabama. Louise was the daughter of George Richard DANLEY and Ruth COWART. Murry met Louise in __________ where Murry was ________________
Louise sometimes made the comment that she had named her husband. "My memory of Mother's explanation of Daddy's middle name is that his birth certificate had "baby boy Lloyd" on it and when it came time to enlist in the Navy Mother put the name in ---I think she just missed the spelling! Or the Navy misspelled "Garrett" and they never changed it ---it was still Murry G. Lloyd. I have never seen my father's name spelled any other way but "Murry". A side note to this is when I received Daddy's death certificate his name was spelled "Murray" !! I have not changed it but I will ---I think of the next generations who might come across it and say "that's not Murry"!!" (EDL)
Murry G. LLOYD joined the U. S. Navy during World War II. He enlisted on 21 July 1942 at Birmingham, Alabama and received an Honorable Discharge on 21 September 1945 at Shelton, Norfolk, Virginia as a Machinist's Mate Second Class. His service number was 604 64 95. Naval Service School Training included a five week course at the Yorktown Mine Warfare School in Virginia. Murry was assigned to the USS Portland (CA-33), an Indianapolis Class Heavy Cruiser in the Pacific Theater about the first of September 1942.
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the Portland was two days out en route to Midway Island with an aircraft carrier battle group. Through the remainder of December and until 1 May 1942 she operated between the West Coast, Hawaii, and Fiji. She served in Rear Admiral T. C. Kinkaid's Attack Group 4-8 May when a Japanese invasion force was turned back from Port Moresby, New Guinea during the two day battle of the Coral Sea. When Lexington (CV-2) was lost the Portland took on 722 survivors. She was in Rear Admiral F. J. Fletcher's Task Force 17 carrier screen during the Battle of Midway (2-6 June 1942) when the Japanese lost four of their carriers. The Portland provided cover and support for the Marine landings at Tulagi and Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands, 7 to 9 August. She then remained in the area to support the Guadalcanal operations and to protect Allied communications lines. The cruiser participated in the Battle of the Eastern Solomon Islands 23-25 August, when Allied Forces prevented reinforcement of Japanese units in the Solomons by a large naval armada under Admiral Yamamoto. She then steamed south to take part in the Battle of Santa Cruz 26-27 October as one of the escorts for the USS Enterprise (CV-6). (Murry LLOYD had reported aboard the USS Portland by this time.) Two weeks later the USS Portland participated in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal (12-15 November) which resulted in heavy damage to both forces but broke up the determined Japanese effort to disrupt the landing of 6,000 American troops on Guadalcanal.
During the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal (12-15 November), at 0158 (just before 2 A.M.) on 13 November 1942 , a Japanese torpedo struck the USS Portland on her starboard quarter, blowing off both inboard propellers, jamming the rudder five degrees right, and jamming number three turret in train and elevation. A four degree list was quickly corrected by shifting ballast, but the steering problem could not be overcome and the ship was forced to steam in circles to starboard. Although seriously damaged, after completing the first circle, the Portland's forward turrets started firing at a Japanese battleship that was illuminated by nearby burning ships and flares. The enemy returned the fire, but all salvos passed over the cruiser. With four more salvos by Portland's six forward guns, her shells found their target, starting fires in the Japanese battleship. Later, at 0630, still circling, the Portland opened fire on an enemy destroyer at a range of six miles. On the sixth salvo the destroyer exploded, rolled over, and sank within five minutes.
Murry was in the number three gun turret. The explosion from the torpedo hit on the USS Portland knocked him down the turret. He said there were so many men badly injured and dead that he thought his injuries were not bad enough to complain. As a result of his injuries in this naval battle, Murry walked with a limp for the rest of his life. All tolled, Murry spent 34 months at sea on the USS Portland.
"Found a letter from Joe H. Floyd, Lt. Comdr., USNR, Medals & Awards Section, Enlisted Performance Division: "Award made to you for meritorious conduct as a member of the Naval service: Ribbon bar of the Navy Unit Commendation awarded the USS PORTLAND for heroism in action against enemy Japanese surface forces in the Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, 12-13 November 1942." I even have the ribbon in the envelope!!" (EDL)
After the war and for most of his life, Murry was a salesman, selling furniture and later mobile homes. After the war, he and Louise lived in Port St. Joe, Florida, where Elesa Diane LLOYD was born. He moved the family to Pensacola, Florida about 1949 where their second daughter Pamela LLOYD was born. In 1982, Murry and Louise moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida where they lived after retiring. When Louise died on 10 May 1998, Murry moved to Tallahassee, Florida, living with his daughter Diane and husband Earl DANIELL. Murry died there on 8 September 1999. Murry was buried beside his wife Louise in Fort Barancas National Cemetery, Plot: 40, 0, 1190, Pensacola, Florida.

State of Alabama, Covington County
Dear sir, I now address you on a subject on which I solicit yourattention with a hope you will patiently examine the contents andexcuse the lengthy address which you will have t peruse in order toobtain an idea of my present request. It is regard to a pension towhich I believe my father, James Dannelley, is justly entitled to forhis services in the Rev War. After a thorough examinatin of this ofthis I hope a full satisfaction to the same. I will just say to youthat my father James Dannelley agreeble to his statements in his lifetime served as I believe a volunteer for seven years in the Rev. Iwill state to you that we as heirs wish to know whether we areentitled to a pension for his services in the war, as he never to anyin his life. We cannot make any positive proof of his services, butwe can establish proof by several substantial men who know him thatthey believe him to be the very man to performed the services of asoldier in the Rev. He often stated in his conversation to uschildren tht General green was one of the officers that he servedunder and that McCoy was his Captain. He lived near Savannah inGeorgia or SC at the time he entered the service. He married directlyafter the expiration of the war. You know that we cannot positivelyprove his marriage to my mother, but as in cases of similar nature wecan prove that they were said and believed to be man and wife. Thereis not proof on record that I know of. My mother died in 1817 July th5th. My father then removed from SC, Beaufort District, to Alabama.He remained a widower until his death which occurred on the 26th ofFeb 1833. He was born, I believe n August 1750. I could give thiscoreectly as to the day of the month by referring to a family recordthat my brother has in his possession. There is three brothers andmyself now living, two of them in this country and one of them inTexas and was living the last account we had of him. I know notwhether all this is necessary or not, but deem it satisfactory tostate it as you may wish to know as much of the history of his life asI am able to give. I am not able to probe any battles he was in buthe has often told us of being in battles among which was "Brandywineand the Cowpens and others that we do no recollect and he has alsotold us that sometimes his officers would be changed and he would beplaced under the "care of other", but we do not recollect all thesethings and have no postive proof. It is for you to consider and giveme the desired information. My father never made an application for apension and he said he never received any pany for his services in thewar. Very respectfully, You obt. Svt. Elisa Stokes PP I hope tohear from you soon.
On July 28, 1997 Lois Danley travelled to Tallahassee, FL and foundthe letter Mrs. Stokes wrote in 1856 to the Revolutionary War PensionOffice. It was marked "Rejected"; or Denied Claim. She wrote aboutJames Dannelly and Lois found a Rev. Pension for James Danley and assoon as she checked out his stories about battles and what Mrs. Stokesremembered about his battles he fought and who his Captain was, Lois believes they are one in the same. So the spelling of the surname is what was putting them off; or he had already collected his pension and she was not aware he had done so.
This is a work in progress and I acknowledge that there could be mistakes made. Please contact me if you find obvious errors.

James G. Dannelly (Elizabeth's father) was a Rev. War Veteran. Elizabeth filed for his pension but didn't have enough information to obtain it. The Steeles, Dannellys, Danleys, Donnelly, are listed several ways along with our other relatives were in the Indian Trade with the Creek Indians and a little with the Cherokees, Mostly Creek. By the 1750's they were 1/2 Creek Indian, the area where I live. North Okaloosa County Florida was where they fled, to hide from the soldiers. (Florida belonged to Spain until 1820) You can trace our names all over the Creek Nation from 1750's to 1838 at the last Creek War. Our people are in the Florida Creek Tribe under those names.
