D., was born October 3, 1818, and is the sixth son of Peter and Ann (Rust) Hurst, natives of Virginia, and of English descent. Mrs. Ann Hurst was a niece of Chancellor Kent, the famous author of "Kent's Commentaries". Peter Hurst came to Kentucky about 1812, and was almost immediately drafted for the war, but his eldest son, George, became his substitute. Alfred Hurst was reared on the home farm, and received his elementary education at Versailles. At the age of twenty he began to read medicine under Drs. Carter and Blackburn, then entered the medical college at Cincinnati, then went to Louisville, graduated from the medical department of the Louisville University in 1845, and began practice at Versailles with Dr. Carter, the partnership lasting one year. In November, 1840, he married Miss Alda, daughter of James Craig and granddaughter of Joseph Craig, the celebrated divine. Mrs. Hurst died in March, 1880, the mother of the following children: James, Sallie, Katie, Amelia, Elijah C., Bettie A., Horace, Samuel and Mary, all of whom died of consumption with the exception of Bettie A., who is the wife of Joseph Knuckles. The Doctor now lives retired on his farm of 500 acres, two miles from Midway, Woodford County.

Halbert, Andrew Jackson-Forrest City Times Newspaper-3-25-1898 - Halbert - A. - J. - - - The sad news of the death of A.J.Halbert reached the city a few days ago. He was a nephew of Capt. W. H. McDaniel, and had other relatives and many friends and comrades in this county. He died in Tuscon, Ariz. He was an ex confederate soldier and was wounded at Shiloh. After careful nursing for seven months, he was restored and immediately joined the cavalry in Arkansas, and was again wounded. He was a big hearted man and his death is regretted. Two households away is Thomas J. JUDGE, 34, and family. Thomas' wife is a granddaughter of Capt. John COOK of Hancock County, Georgia.
Curiously, there is a George HERBERT, 17, in the household of Noland, 39, and Jane, 28, WOMACK in the 1850 census of neighboring Butler County, Alabama. Noland is a school teacher. Was Noland instructing George, son of his deceased sister, Martha Womack HERBERT? This may be a second listing for George Womack HERBERT.
Similarly, George's sister, Sarah E. HERBERT, 14, is also listed in the household of her uncle Thomas E. HERBERT, also a school teacher. All reside in Lowndes County, Alabama.
Edward remarried on 5 February 1860: "Herbert, Edward H(ampton) DeBARD, Louisa Feb 05, 1860 3 422 SHAVER, F. L. B. MG. Bond co-signed by R. H. LEE (Louisa CRENSHAW married first Sam K.
