Obituary: Blake Thomason (June 26, 1926 - March 4, 2009)
Blake Thomason, 82, of Apalachicola, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 with his family by his side at his home. He was born in Sandy Creek in Holmes County, Fl on June 26, 1926, and lived on his family's 96 acre farm. He later moved to DeFuniak Springs, Fl. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II in February of 1944, served on the USS ZAURAK, and was stationed in Guam. He was extremely proud of his service in the military and loved his country dearly. After leaving the service, he moved to be near his sister, Willie Mae Daniels in Port St. Joe, Fl. He was the owner of the Pure Oil station. He was an entrepreneur of many businesses and formed partnerships with Frank Pate of Port St. Joe, Gene Abrams with the Dixie Seafood Company, and the late Billy Joe Rish and Charlie Norton in the development of the Howard's Creek Landing. He also served as pilot commissioner. After moving to Apalachicola, FL, he formed many business partnerships in the seafood industry including Jerry Paulk and business ventures with the late Donny Wilson. He was instrumental in mentoring many young men in business endeavors. He started every morning on his knees in prayer. Blake was known as a man of his word. Blake was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Melinda Thomason; his three sisters Willie Mae Daniels, Effie Faye Thomason, and Marie Laney; his brother Debres; and step-daughter JoEllen Whaley. Blake is survived by his loving and devoted wife, JoAnne Thomason of Apalachicola, Fl; his two brothers Landrum Thomason of Destin, Fl and Coy Thomason of Crestview, Fl; his daughter Phyllis Bixler and son-in-law Norman of Port St. Joe, Fl; and his three grandchildren Rachel Bixler of Port St. Joe Fl, and Mallory and Eli Whaley of Sopchoppy, Fl; and by four devoted caregivers Felica Boone, Bobbie Braxton, Jessie Harris, and Bonnie Parker. Visitation will be on Friday, March 6th from 6-8 PM (EST) at Fellowship Baptist Church of Apalachicola, Fl. The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 7th at 10 AM (EST) at Fellowship Baptist Church of Apalachicola, FL. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, Fl. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Blake Thomason Business Scholarship account at Superior Bank of Port St. Joe, Florida given each year to a promising male high school senior going into business. Donations can also be made to the building fund for the Fellowship Baptist Church of Apalachicola, Florida or Big Bend Hospice.

General Notes: Husband - Dr. Richard PARKER

Dr. Richard Parker was born before 1635 if he is the son of "Elizabeth PARKER, widow," named in the 1669 record below. Richard apparently married twice, first to Mary, widow of Nicholas Perkins, and second to his widow, Judith, administrix of his estate in 1677.

Probably in August 1656, shortly after the agreement of July 31, was signed, Dr. Richard Parker and the widow Mary Perkins were married. Certainly NICHOLAS PERKINS was only recently dead--his will was not even offered for probate until the September Court--but with the scarcity of women in the early days of the Colony and the economic difficulties which faced a widow with children prompt remarriages were the rule of the times.

From the website, Nicholas Perkins & Elizabeth Hardynge [http://pages.prodigy.net/blankenstein/nicholas_perkins_&_elizabeth_hardynge.htm]:
VIRGINIA COLONIAL ABSTRACTS Fleet 975.5 F Vol 10, p. 48 C 10 page 62: This present writing witnesseth that I Richard Parker Do freely give consent to & with Mary Perkins that she shall make over unto her selfe all the estate which her late Dec'd husband left her by his will Doth appe, both here & in England & further I do enjoyne my sleft to bring her children up to Learning to the true intent & meaning hereof I the sd Richard Parker hereunto sett my hand Dated this last Day of July 1656 Test Richd Parker

The will of NICHOLAS PERKINS was presented to the court at Westover in September 1656. Page 67 of the Charles City Records reads. "A probat of the last will and testamt of NICHOLAS PERKINS Decd this day proved in cort is granted to Richd PARKER who married the relect and exex of the said decedt." Unfortunately a copy of the will has not been found in the existing records.
Another agreement made by Dr. Parker is recorded on p. 87 of the same records. it was made Mar. 17, 1656, and produced in Court and recorded Apr. 5, 1657: "Whereas I Richard PARKER chirurgeon did formally freely consent and agree to the signing sealing delivery & in a... estate belonging to my now wife Mary PARKER now know yee that I sd Rich PARKER for divers good causes and considerations moving me thereto friendly & freely confirm to sd Deeds children by these...I so friendly and freely make over to my sd wife MARY all the crop that her two boyes or servts shall make this ensuering yeare and after so long as they have to serve or any other things or servts which shall be sent from her further at any time or times whatsoever. to have and to hold as her owne property and free the sd two servts wch goods or servants already sent out, to be sent unto my sd wife, unto her for ever without any let or hinderance of me the sd Richd PARKER or any other person & ... In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale this 17th day of March 1656." It was signed, sealed, and acknowledged in the presence of Daniel LLEWELLYN and John ASTE and recorded by Howell PRYSE, clerk.

1658 - Dr. Richard PARKER of Henrico County, Virginia gave a heifer to Lydia PERKINS, daughter of Nicholas and Mary PERKINS. "When Lydia's father died, her mother married Dr. Richard PARKER, an Henrico County neighbor." [SVG, Pritchett, p. 2699]
