Major John COLBER [sic] certifies that he has known Mr WOODWARD for 12 years and he has conducted himself..." (Passports Issued by Governors of Georgia" from Audrey Pool to SC List @ rootweb.com)

A John COLBERT is named in the 28 September 1819 Will of his father-in-law, James DANIEL of Oglethorpe County, Georgia: "To son-in-law John Colbert a slave." [The Early Records of Georgia, Volume II, Wilkes County, http://www.giddeon.com/wilkes/books/early-records-of-ga-vol2/125-161.shtml, p.129]

As one researcher mentioned, there is nothing that shows the John G. Colbert who m. William's dau Mary and the John Colbert who m. the dau [Elizabeth?] of James' DANIEL and Elizabeth CUNNINGHAM are the same man. A possibility exists in that if he is the same man, he married cousins, Mary and Elizabeth[?] DANIEL. There was ample time for John to marry the daughter of James DANIEL after the 1806 death of William DANIEL's daughter Mary, and James' daughter die sometime before 1815, when John married to Frances Nelson WINGFIELD.

General Notes: Wife -

Mary Ellen DANIEL, born 17 November 1807, was a daughter of John "Jack" and Martha Pearson Cook DANIEL of Hancock County, Georgia. She married Joseph T. DISMUKES in 1824 in Hancock County.

In the 1830 census, Joseph and Mary have three children under age 5, a boy and two girls.

Mary Ellen DANIEL's father, John DANIEL wrote what might be termed an all inclusive will. He gave no individual bequeaths, but instead, left everything to be operated as a whole for the benefit of all his family, eventually to be equally divided among his children. In part, John wrote, "It is my will and desire that all the Negroes of which I may be possessed, together with every other species of personal property should be kept together upon my two plantations, vis, the plantation on which I now live, and ___ Mill (?) place for the natural benefit of my wife and children,... when my wife marries or any of my children arrive at the age of twenty one years or marry, they or either of them upon the happening of such event shall be entitled a distributive share of my whole personal estate , and should it suit the convenience of my children after receiving a share of my personal estate as above mentioned, shall be at liberty to work their hands on any part of my lands, rent free."

Mary Ellen's husband, Joseph T. DISMUKES died in 1832. In the same year her children were fortunate drawers in the 1832 Georgia Land Lottery as orphans of Joseph.

This included warehouses totaling 1,200,000 square feet of floor space, headquarters and other buildings, a million gallon reservoir, 7 miles of railway, etc. he turned the post over to the Quartermaster Corps on 31 October, about 85% completed. Assigned to Fort Belvoir, Virginia, he took a camouflage course and was assigned to the Camouflage Section of the Engineer Board. In April 1943 he was assigned to the Army Air force at Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas. On arrival he was appointed Camouflage Officer for Basic Training Center No. 3, a position he held until relieved from duty in February 1946. He received letters of commendation from Major Generals John F. Curry and J. E. Chancy and Brig. General A. Hornsby which entitled him to the Army Commendation Ribbon with pendant. He was promoted to Major, 11 February 1946.

Returning to New Rochelle he reopened his architectural office. He has been married 3 times: (1) 1915, Mary Jane Cole, 1897-1917, no issue; (2) 1924, Rowena Anne McEWAN, divorced 1941, no issue; (3) Norma G. HALBERT, son, William Carter, Jr., born 1944.

The history of the descendants of Isaac HALBERT and their connections was started around the turn of the century by William Clarence HALBERT and was compiled from public and private records, where available, recollections of old timers and other sources. Destruction of family records and the death of persons who could have supplied accurate information long before the start of this inquiry left many gaps which are hard to fill. The original history was carried thru until about 1920 and formed the basis of this genealogy. About 1946 collection was resumed by a son, William Carter HALBERT, and only daughter, Frances Aileen, wife of James Dallas Atkinson, of Greenup, Kentucky, who were also developing the Atkinson Family genealogy. All sorts of public records were searched in Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, etc., as well as those of historical and genealogical societies in Kentucky, Ohio, New York and elsewhere. Hundreds of letters were written to relatives in those states and in Arkansas, Texas, etc., and accurate information obtained on long missing branches of the family. After information was considered fairly complete genealogical charts were made up and lettered on convenient sized sheets by William Carter HALBERT who also wrote the accompanying genealogical history of the HALBERT's, Bate's, Betts, etc. this history was meant to cover such facts or accomplishments as can be found in the records."

The above Genealogical History can be found in the: Library of Congress, Miscellaneous HALBERT's and others Pre-Revolutionary Records, (Isaac HALBERT 1750-1825, and Descendants. CS71.H16 1955. This a record of the: Miscellaneous HALBERT's and Others in Pre-Revolutionary Records of Isaac HALBERT (1750-1825) and Descendants.

General Notes: Husband -

Robert Franklin DANIEL, son of John Thomas and Lucinda Angle DANIEL, was born on November 24 1864 and died 16 Feb 1960, per his Certificate of Death. On it, his father is named as "Tatum" DANIEL, with mother's name unknown. "Tatum" is known to be John Thomas DANIEL. According to his descendants, "Tatum" was a nickname evolved from "Tater", so called because he grew potatoes at New River at the Heard and Troup County line. Robert did not have military service. Family information was provided by his son Sam DANIEL. (Certificate in possession of Marlane Daniel)

About 1881 Robert married Susan Anna COLE. They had eight children. Susan died before 1898 when Robert married second Rachel Anne BRAND.

The 1891 Tax Digest of Heard County, Georgia lists John A. and Robert F. DANIEL in the Rockalo District. (Marlane Daniel)

1900 U.S. Census, Georgia, Heard County, Centralhatchee, 1 June 1900; Series: T623 Roll: 204 Page: 66: 272 276 DANIEL, Bob Head W M Oct 1864 35 2 GA GA GA Farmer; -- Annie Wife W F Feb 1863 27 2 1 1 AL AL AL; -- Jeptha Son W M Aug 1899 7/12 S GA GA AL; -- Ninna Dau W F April 1881 19 S GA GA GA Farm Labor; -- Tom Son W M Sep 1883 16 S GA GA GA Farm Labor; -- Sam Son W M Oct 1886 13 S GA GA GA Farm Labor; -- Bell Dau W F Sep 1889 10 S GA GA GA Farm Labor; -- Robert Son W M Dec 1891 8 S GA GA GA At School; -- Olin Son W M Apr 1893 7 S GA GA GA At School. [Curiously, Jeptha, 11 in the 1910 census, is not named in the 1900 census.]

In the 1910 census, Robert is named as Robert L. DANIEL. This is Robert F., confirmed by wife and children on the 1920 census. The 20 year increase in age was explained by Marlane Daniel as "he said he was older to get out of war."

The 1930 census records the age at which individuals were first married. Those ages in this record confirm that Robert Franklin DANIEL was married twice, first at age 17, about 1881, to Susan Anna COLE, and second about 1898 to Rachel Anne BRAND when she was 25.

Robert F. DANIEL's death certificate, number 07831, records his death at age 95 on 16 February 1960 in Heard County, Georgia. He is buried in Salem Methodist Church Cemetery, Franklin Heard County, Georgia. General Notes: Wife -

Marlane Daniel, as "marlanegeorge" posted that "Robert Franklin (Bob) Daniel and Susan Anna Cole? first wife born Feb 1860 in Heard county Georgia." [http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.daniel/1775/mb.ashx?pnt=1]

Based on Marlane's post, this is most likely Susan Anna COLE and her family in the 1860 and 1870 censuses. They confirm "Susan Anna" as a daughter of Daniel T. and Isabella COLE of Heard County, Georgia.
1860 U.S. Census, Georgia, Heard County, Franklin P O; Series: M653 Roll: 127 Page: 768: 725 710 Daniel T. COLE 24 M W Overseer --- 100 AL; Isabella " 26 F GA; Samuel " 5 M GA; Mary " 3 F GA; Susan " 2/12 F GA.

Isabella is head of household in 1870. Daniel T. Cole, presumed to have died before 1870, may have perished in the War Between The States.

1870 U.S. Census, Georgia, Heard County, Franklin P O; Series: M593 Roll: 157 Page: 334: 872 824 COLE Issabella [sic] 35 F W Keeping house GA; -- Samuel 14 M W F. L. [Farm laborer?] GA; -- Mary 12 F W F. L. GA; -- Anna 10 F W At home GA.

Susan Anna COLE and Robert Franklin DANIEL were married after the 1880 census. Robert, age 16, was listed in his father's household in the 1880 census of Heard County. The 1930 census shows Robert was first married at age 17.

"Susan Anna COLE died between 1895, when she had twins born dead or who died shortly thereafter, and 1898 when her husband, Robert Franklin DANIEL remarried about 1898 to Rachel Annie BRAND." [Marlane Daniel]

"Susan is buried in Salem Methodist Church in Franklin, Georgia in Heard county [Georgia]." [Adam Daniel]

Notes: Marriage

Robert Franklin DANIEL and Susan Anna COLE were married about 1881, determined from the 1930 census which lists Robert as age 17 at his first marriage.

"George G. COLEMAN (1828-77) was the son of John GUNNELL's sister, Sarah Gunnell COLEMAN. His family moved to Missouri during the 1830s. George eventually returned to Fairfax County and in the U.S. Census of 1860 is listed as living with John and Sarah GUNNELL. In 1861, he and his uncle John were among the first to sign the Ordinances of Secession. By 1870, George had married Olivia JACKSON and had probably moved into the house. George and Olivia had five children\emdash Critcher Coleman Oliver (1870-[ ]), Susan known as Siti (1871-[ ]), Samuel (1873-1927), Gunnell (circa 1875-1941), and George W. (1876-1902). John GUNNELL was childless, and, at his death in 1874, named his nephew George G. COLEMAN as his sole heir and executor. George died soon after in 1877. His widow married Philip ADAMS who was named the children's guardian in 1881." "When Samuel COLEMAN died in 1927, his daughter Lida and her husband, Grover Cleveland JENKINS, inherited the John Gunnell House. Cleve was a carpenter as well as a farmer. He kept a pack of foxhounds and enjoyed hunting with his neighbors. The farm was typical for that time. They raised chickens, cows, horses, and pigs for their own use, raised corn, wheat, and hay in the fields, and had a large vegetable garden. Oral histories recorded by the Great Falls Historical Society in the 1980s show that while there was little money here during the Great Depression, life on these small family farms was relatively comfortable." General Notes: Husband -

"1 The John GUNNELL House was built on land which was part of the original 676 acres purchasedfrom Bryan FAIRFAX by William GUNNELL III and his wife, Sara Coleman GUNNELL, in 1791 when the entail established by Thomas, Sixth Lord Fairfax, was finally broken.
2 Part of Fairfax's Great Falls Manor, the property was probably occupied by John GUNNELL's grandfather earlier while managing Fairfax's farm leases. This land was added to an adjoining 450-acre parcel Gunnell purchased from John HARLE in 1785, creating the plantation on which he and his family resided. William GUNNELL III was active in Fairfax County politics, serving in many public offices. His surviving heirs included four sons and four daughters.
3 At his death in 1822, his daughter Elizabeth Gunnell MIX inherited the 216-acre parcel where the John GUNNELL House would be built.
4 She died in 1824 "bearing an infant son Oscar."
5 Her husband Lewis MIX died soon after, leaving Oscar in the care of his uncles, John and George GUNNELL. John married Sarah Ann SPENCER in 1825 in the District of Columbia. Oscar conveyed his land to his uncle John in 1844.
6 He went to medical school, as had his uncles, Drs. James S. and William H. GUNNELL, and became a respected doctor in Charlottesville."

Benjamin COLLINS married Liddey [sic, Sedly or Sidney?] FOSTER on 26 September 1811 in Hancock County, Georgia. ["Georgia, Marriages, 1808-1967," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FWHZ-V6T : accessed 4 May 2012), Benjamin Collins, 1811.]

Benjamin John David COLLINS married Kezia FOSTER on 29 Jun 1814 in Hancock County, Georgia. ["Georgia, Marriages, 1808-1967," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FWHZ-K62 : accessed 4 May 2012), Benjamin John David Collins, 1814.]

"Sedly Foster - other possible names are Siddy and Sidney; probably listed as the one daughter on the 1790 NC Census, was born circa 1790 in Craven Co. NC. She married in 1811 to Benjamin Collins. Sedly's children are listed on her father's will indicating that she may have been deceased by this time. Her sons are Robert and William."
'Keziah Foster - born about 1794 in Craven Co. NC. She is also plainly listed as Keziah in her father's will in 1816. However, marriage records show us that in 1814 she was married to a Benjamin Collins. Her sister Sedly was also married to a Benjamin Collins. It could be possible that Sedly died and Keziah married her sister's husband." [The Foster Family, http://www.angelfire.com/la2/jeremyfoster/]
