Jon Robert Lafrenz was born in Spokane on Oct. 13, 1925, to Frank and Esther Lafrenz. He grew up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho with his two older brothers, Melvin and Stanley. Jon was a member of the Army Air Corp from 1944-1945 during the late stages of World War II and trained as a pilot in B-25 bombers. After his discharge from the armed services, he attended the University of Idaho, where he met his future bride, Charlotte Ann Cramer. They were married on Aug. 28, 1948, and moved to Seattle. He attended the University of Washington and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. They relocated to Lewiston, Idaho, where Jon worked at Lewiston Ready Mix for his brother, Stanley. Several years later he was hired by Potlatch Forest Inc., (PFI) as a chemist in the paper mill laboratory. He soon found his true calling when he was placed in the paper sales group. Jon worked his way up to general sales manager and after 14 years with PFI, he accepted a new position with Boise Cascade in Portland. He had a very successful career spanning 24 years and retired as senior vice president of paper manufacturing. Jon is survived by his loving "bride" of 59 years, Charlotte; and his children, Robert, Thomas, and Ann Marie. He has nine grand-children and three great-grandchildren. Obituary: The death of Mr. Philip P. Pearson closed the career of one who belonged to a family well known in South Carolina. He was the son of the late John H. Pearson, who was a prominent citizen of Richland district. Mr. Pearson was in his fourty-eighth year. Receiving his early education in Columbia, he entered the Confederate service in 1864, as lieutenant in Co. K, Third regiment of State troops, commanded by Col. A. D. Goodwyn. He afterwards served a while in the navy, but soon returned to his former command. After the war, he removed to St. Louis, Mo., where he very successfully engaged in mercantile pursuits. He leaves his widow and one child. The funeral services will be held in Elmwood cemetery at 5:30 o'clock this afternoon. [The State, Columbia, South Carolina, Monday, March 16, 1896, Page 8]

In 1870 Philip resides in the home of his sister, Agnes Pearson Macbeth, age 25; he is age 22. In 1880, Philip is listed as age 34. It is evident he was born about 1847 or 1848, not 1844. RLD.]

Obituary: Mr. Victor O'Gorman Dorr, 85, of Henrico, a World War II Army Air Forces veteran, a retired copy editor with The Richmond News Leader who was founding editor of the Green Section, husband of Mary Jane Creamer Dorr.
-
Victor O'Gorman Dorr who spent more than 40 years as a copy and special-projects editor for The Richmond News Leader, had a passion for language and using it properly.
When handed a weather story to edit during one sweltering July stretch in the 1960s, and seeing more of the same in the forecast, he dashed off a three-line headline wryly predicting "Warm, Humid / Warm, Humid / Warm, Humid."
Mr. Dorr, who retired in 1991 as editor of the News Leader's Green Section, which covered the entertainment and arts scene, died Friday at his Henrico County residence at 85.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 6006 Three Chopt Road in Richmond, where he had served as a lector, mentor to new Catholics and one-time Scoutmaster. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Richmond.
Mr. Dorr went from high school in his native Blackville, S.C., into the Army Air Forces during World War II. He flew 35 combat missions as a side gunner on B-29s, including raids over Tokyo.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and, two months later in April 1950, married Mary Jane Creamer.
Mr. Dorr was a reporter for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot before coming to the News Leader copy desk in the early 1950s.
He became copy desk chief and, in the mid-1950s, founding editor of the Green Section, which started as two pages in the Saturday paper and eventually separated into a special section whose cover was printed on green paper. Besides the TV listings, the section featured articles from an architectural column to theater pieces to Young Virginians pages.
"One of my first recollections was of him doing the page diagrams and sections for the Green Section after dinner," on a folding card table at home, said his son, Victor O. Dorr Jr. of Midlothian, a sports writer for the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Jerald Finch, former News Leader managing editor and retired Richmond Times-Dispatch ombudsman, said that "people bought the Saturday paper even if they didn't have subscriptions to the weekly paper."
In addition to his wife and son, survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Blake Flesher of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Sister Maria Rosa Dorr of Emmitsburg, Md.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Obituary: DORR, Mary Jane Creamer, 86, of Richmond, passed away on November 14, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Victor O. Dorr. Survivors include two children, son, Victor Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Midlothian; daughter, Jackie Flesher and her husband, Rusty, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A native Richmonder, she graduated from St. Gertrude High School in 1944 and Georgetown Visitation in 1946. She worked as a medical technician and later as an office assistant with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond. She was devotedly attentive to Richmond's Little Sisters of the Poor Community, often delivering ice cream cakes as birthday treats. She was an adept and enthusiastic hostess, whose Christmas day open houses became traditions in the Old Westham subdivision, in which she lived for more than 50 years. Her great gift was cultivating and sustaining relationships. A friendship, once formed, became a thing of permanence. Recently she made one of the best and most significant friends of her adult life, LaFonda Davis, her caregiver since September of 2011. The family's debt of gratitude to Mrs. Davis and to the staff of Spring Arbor-Ridgefield is profound. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12 p.m. Monday at St. Bridget Roman Catholic Church, 6006 Three Chopt Rd. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Gertrude High School, 3125 Stuart Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227. Two households away is Thomas J. JUDGE, 34, and family. Thomas' wife is a granddaughter of Capt. John COOK of Hancock County, Georgia.
Curiously, there is a George HERBERT, 17, in the household of Noland, 39, and Jane, 28, WOMACK in the 1850 census of neighboring Butler County, Alabama. Noland is a school teacher. Was Noland instructing George, son of his deceased sister, Martha Womack HERBERT? This may be a second listing for George Womack HERBERT.
Similarly, George's sister, Sarah E. HERBERT, 14, is also listed in the household of her uncle Thomas E. HERBERT, also a school teacher. All reside in Lowndes County, Alabama.

Edward remarried on 5 February 1860: "Herbert, Edward H(ampton) DeBARD, Louisa Feb 05, 1860 3 422 SHAVER, F. L. B. MG. Bond co-signed by R. H. LEE (Louisa CRENSHAW married first Sam K. Obituary: William P. (Bill) Crenshaw, Jr., died April 24, 2003 from complications of the debilitating neurological disease known as Multiple System Atrophy. The only child of Mary Donovan Crenshaw and William Percy Crenshaw, he was born July 25, 1919 in Trenton, N.J. He graduated from Boy's High School and then attended the University of Georgia from 1936 to 1941, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree. While at the University, he was a member of and Vice President of the Gamma Chapter of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, Treasurer of the Senior Law Class, served on the Pan-Hellenic Council from 1939 to 1941, member of Phi Kappa, Phi Delta Phi and the Gridiron Society. On January 20, 1942, as an ROTC Army Infantry Reserve officer, he was ordered to active duty during World War II. He served with the 33rd Division of the 123rd Infantry Regiment and participated in the New Guinea and Luzon Campaigns, commanding Company L. Later he served as Executive Officer of the 3rd Battalion and was in command of the occupation of Nishinomyia, Japan - a town of about 60,000 people located near Kyoto. He was discharged in 1946 having attained the rank of Major. His awards include the Expert and Combat Infantryman badges, and the Bronze Star medal. Upon his return, he and his friend, J.T. Greer - a former captain in the Marine Corps - opened the Silver Grill restaurant located at 900 Boulevard, N.E., Atlanta. It was housed in the first prefabricated aluminum building ever put into civilian use. The building was the sort used by the Army in the Pacific. The Silver Grill is still in operation today. In 1949 Crenshaw Supply Co. was started as a limited partnership between Mr. Crenshaw and his father, William P. Crenshaw, Sr. Upon the death in 1963 of Mr. Crenshaw, Sr., the company was incorporated with all the original stock being held by the Crenshaw family. Before his retirement, Mr. Crenshaw was a leader in the scaffold industry. For many years he was active in the Scaffold Industry Association and served as a director of the Scaffold Industry Association Insurance Company. In 1973 Mr. Crenshaw's son, David Crenshaw, joined the company, and in 1986 was named President of the company. Mr. Crenshaw remained Chairman of the Board and maintained an active interest in the company. In 2001 Crenshaw Supply Company was named Family Business of the Year in the small business category by Georgia Trend magazine and Kennesaw State University Family Enterprise Center. At the ceremony, Mr. Crenshaw accepted the award and paid tribute to his father whose foresight and imagination began over 50 years of business success and community respect. He was a founding member of Cherokee Town and Country Club. A cradle Catholic, Mr. Crenshaw was an active member of Christ The King Cathedral for many years, and later, was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he served on the Finance Committee, the Parish Council and was an Usher. In his retirement Mr. Crenshaw was a model train enthusiast, a voracious reader and armchair sports fan. Nothing gave him more pleasure than watching football and savoring a defeat of Georgia Tech at the hands of the University of Georgia. He played golf regularly with a group of friends known as "The Good Guys." That's the way he would want to be remembered - one of the good guys. He was pre-deceased in 1967 by his first wife, Anna McConneghey Crenshaw. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nancy Hutson Crenshaw, and his children: David A. Crenshaw and his wife, Jeannie; Nancy Elizabeth Crenshaw; Patti Crenshaw and her husband, Sam Billingsley; Joyce Crenshaw Decker and her husband, William "Chip" Decker. She had tried it "some time ago" in Savannah, Georgia when she thought she was going to die from abdominal distress. It had restored her to "about perfect health." Her picture accompanied the endorsement. [The Evening Star, Washington, District of Columbia, Friday, March 8, 1929, Page 45]

Ora L. Crewes Holloway may have died before 1940 when Hillman P. Holloway is listed as a widower in that census.

In 1860, Georgia, age 12, lives in the home of her step-father, William H. DANIEL in Wilkinson County, Georgia.

Georgiana married James P. CRISWELL.

Her grave, next to that of her husband, in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Wilkinson County, Georgia is marked by a handscribed stone as:

NOTES ON PUBLISHED ERRORS FOUND IN THE WILKINSON COUNTY, GEORGIA SHINHOLSTER FAMILY LINES:

Joseph T. Maddox's Wilkinson County Georgia Historical Records contains several errors in the SHINHOLSTER family compilation on page 549. The information there is apparently based on census data melded with marriage records.
1. Quote: "The 1840 census lists Elizabeth Shinholster, George SHINHOLSTER, wife Sarah A. HATCHER, James SHINHOLSTER, wife Mary HALL." The 1840 census named only heads of household. Perhaps a typo and it is 1850. Even if 1850, that would not be possible. George W. SHINHOLSER married Sarah Ann HATCHER on 3 March 1846 in the Liberty Baptist Church, Wilkinson County, Georgia and George's death on August 16,1847 is recorded in the Liberty Church minutes.

2. In an unmentioned 1850 family, Sarah SHINHOLSTER, 19, widowed, and her daughter, Georgiana, 2, reside in the household of her widowed mother Sarah HATCHER. Young Sarah is the widow of George W. SHINHOLSTER.

3. Re: the James C. SHINHOLSTER family.
a. Probably another typo: As listed in several records, James' middle initial was "G." The 1850 census of his famly is located in Wilkinson County; Series: M432 Roll: 87 Page: 364. Mary's parents, John and Mary HALL, are next door.
392 392 James G. SHINHOLSTER 47 M Farmer 800 GA;
Mary 42 F GA;
Lidy E. 16 F GA;
John W. 14 M GA;
Harriett E. 11 F GA;
James 7 M GA;
Sarah Ann 4 F GA.
b. Sarah Ann, born about 1846 is not listed in James C. SHINHOLSTER family. Apparently in her place is "Georgia Ann born 1846 married J. P. CRISWELL." A transpositioning of a given name from another SHINHOLSTER family?

c. Georgia Ann (Georgian) who married J. P. CRISWELL was the daughter of George W. and Sarah Ann Hatcher SHINHOLSTER.

I do not have the research to comment on the remaining SHINHOLSTER families compiled here. The above indicates information presented on this family should not be taken as gospel, but as a strating point for more detailed research.

A number of reports suggest that Elizabeth and Loverick YOUNG had 4 sons and a daughter. Based on my studies of dates of birth and other records, it is my belief that Loverick YOUNG had a son Jacob, b 1745, who reportedly died as a child, a dau Lydia, b 29 Dec 1749, and a son Daniel b 29 Mar 1756, by a former wife. With his second marriage, Elizabeth became the step-mother of Lydia and Loverick, Jr, and the natural mother of the following issue, all believed to have been born in Craven/Johnston/Dobbs County NC:
Loverick YOUNG, Jr (Elizabeth, Major I 2 , Daniel 1), b 9 Feb 1761
Abel Croom YOUNG (Elizabeth, Major I 2 , Daniel 1), b 11 Feb 1765, d 5 Oct 1784

Richard DANIEL may have died before 1870 when their daughter, Elizabeth, age 12, is living with Missouri's mother, Catherine CROSS, 64, in Loudoun County, Virginia. Also in the household are James T. Numerous SWART families are Catherine CROSS' neighbors.
