General Notes: Husband -
Fernando C. POSEY, born 24 March 1848, was a son of Henry W. POSEY and Louisa DANIELL of Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia.
1850 U.S. Census, Georgia, Baldwin County, Exclusive of Milledgeville, August 16, 1850; Series: M432 Roll: 61 Page: 108: 295 295 Henry W. POESY (sic) 30 M Overseer Georgia; Louisa L. " 19 F Georgia; 11 Fernanda " 2 F Georgia; Henry A. " 1 M Georgia. (a census error named Fernando as Fernanda, a female. RLD) Next door is Arthur R. "Georgia, Baldwin County: John F. CALLAWAY makes application for letters of guardianship... of Phinander[*] and Phinasus[*] POSEY, minors of H. W. POSEY... John Hammond, Ordinary." (Tuesday, December 27, 1859) [Milledgeville Georgia Newspaper Clippings (Southern Recorder), Volume X, 1857-1861, Tad Evans, p. 238]
[*Names should be Fernando and Damascus POSEY, sons of Henry W. POSEY and Louisa Constanza DANIELL. Louisa married second John Francis Marrion CALLAWAY, between 1858 and 1861.]
1860 census: Not found.
Fernando served the Confederate States of America in Pruden's Battery, Georgia Artillery (State Troops) in the War Between the States.
About 1868, he married Sarah M. BRAKE.
In 1870, Fernando and Sarah POSEY, both 22, and daughter Lucy, 8 months, all born in GA, are listed in the census of Milledgeville, Georgia. (The 12 above Mary N.'s age, 16, is part of Lucy's age of 8/12.) Mary N. DANIELL, 16, House keeper, lives with them, no doubt to help Sarah with the home and baby. She is thought to be Mary M. DANIELL, 6, named in the 1860 census, daughter of William H. (Harper) DANIELL, brother of Louisa POSEY and Arthur DANIELL. (Series: M593 Roll: 134 Page: 173)
Next door to Fernando in 1870 is James (R.) DANIELL and family, another brother to Louisa and Arthur. "W. H. DANIEL" is a "missing" heir to the estate of Mary A. DANIEL, widow of Jesse DANIELL, in 1880. This proximity of families is also a link to William H. DANIEL, Mary's father, and his being a son of Jesse and Mary A. DANIELL of Baldwin County. If true, Mary is a first cousin to Fernando, assisting in his home, and living next door to their Uncle James. (Series: M593 Roll: 134 Page: 173, page dated 11 June 1870 ) Strengthening this evidence, Fernando's brother, Henry POSEY, 20, lives in the home of Arthur DANIELL, brother of James R. DANIELL, also in Baldwin County. (Series: M593 Roll: 134 Page: 166).
On the company roll of the "Salem Grays"published in the Union and Recorder, Milledgeville, Georgia, Oct. 14, 1874, page 3 are:
DANIEL, J. R. - 1st Sgt. [James R., uncle of F. C. & B. D. POSEY, husband of Sarah Frances PUGH]
POSEY, F C - 2nd Sgt. [Fernando C., brother of B. D.]

Buford Edward BRALY married Mildred B. SHANK in Manhatten, Riley County, Kansas on 22 May 1931. They had two daughters, Carol Diane and Elaine Lynne.
Buford served as a Lieutnant in the U. S. Navy in World War II.
In 1948, Buford E. Braly was the Democrat Party's candidate for Justice Supreme Court, Position No. 3 for the State of Kansas.
Buford practiced law in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the court-appointed defense attorney for Lowell Lee Andrews, a University of Kansas student charged with slaying his parents and sister on November 28, 1958. This trial had national attention and was the subject of the book "In Cold Blood," by Truman Capote. Buford and his partner, Harry Hayward, were referenced but not named in the book:
"In short, what Andrews' defenders, a team composed of Meninger Clinic psychiatrists and two first-class attorneys, hoped to achieve was a victory of legal-landmark stature. The great essential was to persuade the court to substitute the Durham Rule for the M'Naghten Rule. If that happened, then Andrews, because of the abundant evidence concerning his schizophrenic condition, would certainly be sentenced not to the gallows, or even to prison, but to confinement in the State Hospital for the Criminally Insane."
Buford is buried beside his wife in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Panama City, Bay County, Florida. Pictures of Buford and Mildred and his grave marker are on Find A Grave Memorial# 31978604:

Lena DANIEL, born 6 August 1882, was the daughter of John A. and Sarah J. DANIEL. In the 1900 census, Lena was 16 and single in her parents' home, her birth listed as August 1883.
She married D. J. "Jep" BRAND on 6 June 1901 in Heard County, Georgia. Lena and Jep had four children before the 1910 census when she is 27 and a "widow" with four children living in her father's home. Family recollections say that Lena had divorced D. J. BRAND.
In the 1910 census listing for John A. DANIEL's family, everyone was listed as DANIEL, despite some being widowed, married, or named as grandchildren, making identification of individuals difficult at best. Both Lena and her sister Mattie are in their parents' home in 1910. Both have children, Lena four and Mattie has had 2, one living. Five apparent grandchildren are in the home. Descending in age, they are Mattie Lou 5, Golden 5, Sarah Lee 3, Jep 2, and Ruthie J. (less than a year). Sarah Lee is known to be the daughter of Mattie. Jep and Ruthie are known to be to be Lena's by Jep BRAND. Lena and Jep's two older children Katie and Maude live with their father. The parents of Mattie L. and Golden are not proven.

Samuel Willis DANIEL was born 10 October 1885, son of Robert Franklin and Susan Anna Cole DANIEL. There are alternative dates for Samuel's birth: The Social Security Death Index says 10 Oct 1882; draft registration says born 10 Oct 1884; the 1900 census shows Oct 1886. Census ages are consistant with a birth date of Oct 1885.

Samuel registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918. His registration card shows he was born 10 Oct 1884, was a farmer, 33 years old, and had blue eyes and brown hair. His nearest relative was Emily DANIEL (wife). They lived on RFD #6, Franklin, Heard County, Georgia. Apparently, Samuel was not "called up."

According to his descendants, "Tatum" was a nickname evolved from "Tater", so called because he grew potatoes at New River at the Heard and Troup County line. Robert did not have military service. Family information was provided by his son Sam DANIEL. (Certificate in possession of Marlane Daniel)
About 1881 Robert married Susan Anna COLE. They had eight children. Susan died before 1898 when Robert married second Rachel Anne BRAND.
The 1891 Tax Digest of Heard County, Georgia lists John A. and Robert F. DANIEL in the Rockalo District. (Marlane Daniel)

[Curiously, Jeptha, 11 in the 1910 census, is not named in the 1900 census.]
In the 1910 census, Robert is named as Robert L. DANIEL. This is Robert F., confirmed by wife and children on the 1920 census. The 20 year increase in age was explained by Marlane Daniel as "he said he was older to get out of war."

"David W. Davis came to this State (Arkansas) in 1829...This was at that time a wilderness, and there were, in what is now Lee County, about forty families on the east side of the L'Anguille, and none on the west. In about 1835 Hardy Williams and brother, Jefferson Ezell, and two brothers, and one Mr. Burris, settled west of Haynes, in what is now Texas Township. The remaining portion of the county was an unbroken [p.583] wilderness, filled with deer, bear, buffalo and many other wild animals.
David W. Davis, Sr., died in 1837. He was born in 1761, and participated in the Revolutionary War. He was on a war ship with Capt. Peterson during the principal part of the war, and was with Gen. Wayne in the war with the Indians, being wounded in the shoulder in the last engagements. His wife was born in 1777, and died in 1861."
