On 12 March 1701/2 the Governor and Council of Virginia made an address of loyalty to the King. A Similar Loyal Address was received from:
Charles City County
1702 Judges ... George BLIGHTON ... Militia Officers... George BLIGHTON

George died not long after he confirmed his loyalty to the king in 1702. His widow, Lydia , became his executor, and soon remarried to Capt. Francis CLEMENTS. George's son, George, Jr. was not of age when his father died; Nathaniel HARRISON became his guardian. From the record below, George, Jr. became of age in or about 1712. placing his birth about 1691 if age 21.

Surry Court, held August 11, 1711, Francis CLEMENT and his wife, Lydia, administer the estate of George BLIGHTON.

"On motion of Nathaniel HARRISON, guardian to George BLEIGHTON, son of George BLEIGHTON, dec'd, it is ordered that he take in his possession the estate of said orphan in hands of Francis CLEMENTS and Lydia his wife, Adm'x of George BLEIGHTON, dec'd, being £310/12/1½ and 10, 971 lbs tobacco, pursuant to accounts of estate enterred by said CLEMENTS 11 Feb. 1712." [Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly Volume 23 Number 1, p. 32]

Prince George County Records. During the seige of Petersburgm 1864-65, almost all of the records of Prince George county were destroyed or carried off by soldiers of Grant's army. A few volumes have been recovered. The last was an order book (court proceedings) 1714-1720. Following are extracts from it:
1714 - "Suit by John WOODSON vs. Francis CLEMENTS and Lyona [sic, Lydia] his wife adninistrix of George BLEIGHTON, deceased." [Virginia will Records, Prince George County Records, p. 263.]

"Benjamin EVANS, 81 acs. (N.L.). Pr. Geo. Co., beg. at land of Capt. Geo. BLAYTON, dec'd, on W. side of Ponds Run, 16 Aug. 1715, p. 241. 10 Shill."

General Notes: Wife -

There is conflicting information on Lydia CLEMENTS' maiden name. Said by some to be Lydia VAUGHN, widow of George BLEIGHTON, by others to be Lydia BLEIGHTON daughter of George, and daughter of Benjamin LAKER and widow of George BLEIGHTON.

Lydia LAKER, widow of George BLEIGHTON, married second Francis CLEMENTS, Sr. about 1703, soon after, their son Benjamin was born.

"Lydia Clements, who bought "Goodwyns" from William Willson in 1733, was a daughter of GEORGE BLIGHTON. (Surry Court, held August 11, 1711, Francis Clement and his wife, Lydia, administer the estate of George Blighton.) [http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/PACE/2009-01/1231080789]]

On page 306 of The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Volume II, Lydia CLEMENTS is named in the 1721 Will of her step-son, Francis CLEMENTS, Jr., "mentions mother-in-law [step-mother?], Lydia CLEMENTS" as given in the text.

"Prince George County Records, 29 September 1733: William WILSON of Henrico County, Virginia, to Lydia CLEMENTS for 5 £, 100 acre plantation called "Goodwins", on Ward's Creek and one other plantation where said Lydia CLEMENTS now dwells in Martin Brandon Parish. Witnesses: Wm. AVERILL, John MINGO, Benjamin CLEMENTS, Matthew WHITFIELD, James PRIES, James CLEMENT. Recorded 9 October 1733." [http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vapittsy/Clementgen.html]From Pritchett, "Southside Virginia Genealogies", p2563:
"In September 1733 a William WILLSON, of Henrico County, deeded "Goodwyns", a 100-acre plantation on Ward's Creek in Prince George County, to Lydia CLEMENTS. Included in the transaction was a second plantation in Martins Brandon Parish on which Lydia was then living. We do not know how Willson came to own the tracts. Lydia was the widow of Francis CLEMENTS by 1718. The nominal price of £5 suggests she was a relation. A Benjamin CLEMENTS was among the witnesses." "Loose Papers - Prince George County, Virginia Records - Deed, 9 October 1733, William Wilson to Lydia Clements 100 acres on Wards Creek
Prince George County, Virginia, Minute Book 1737-1740, Page 369: On 11 December 1739 a deed and release was made to John Smith, Jr., from Richard Ogilby & Lydia Clements, his wife; Peter Robins & Mary, his wife; and James Camp and wife, Elizabeth Clements. Benjamin Clements was brother of Elizabeth Clements, who was wife of James Camp and mother of Lucy Camp, wife of Rev.Samuel Harris.
Benjamin Clements of South Hampton County, Virginia, and Lucy Camp Harris were children of Francis Clement of Surry County. Elizabeth Cements second husband was Ambrose Dudley, Hanover County, Virginia. Capt. Francis Clements first wife was Elizabeth Meriwether, daughter of Nicholas Meriwether"

General Notes: Husband -

Levi Daniel EILAND, son of Absolem EILAND and Ann Nancy DANIEL, is said to have been named for his mother's "favorite and youngest brother, Levi." Circumstantial evidence suggests Ann's brother may have been the Levi DANIELL who died in 1800 in Hancock County, Georgia. IF TRUE and this is NOT PROVEN, Ann Nancy was a daughter of James DANIELL of Fairfield County, South Carolina who. James, son of William and Frances O'DANIEL, was born 1721 in Stafford County, Virginia and died 1798 in Hancock County, Georgia.

In the censuses, Levi D. EILAND is age 30-40 in 1830, 40-50 in 1840, 56 in 1850, 67 in 1860, and 75 in 1870, born then between 1792 and 1795 in Georgia.

"Levi Daniel Eiland was a son of Absalom and his wife, Nancy Ann (Daniel). This family moved to Washington Co, GA., around the time Levi was born. Their property later fell in Hancock Co. when it was formed Levi Daniel Sr. was in AL as early as 1830 according to census reports. It is not known when he lived in Covington Co. nor how long, but at one time he owned a small farm at Bell's Crossing near the eastern border. He apparently lived mostly in the edge of Coffee Co. as he served there as a Justice of the Peace from 1819 to 1850. He also served as the tax collector sometime before the war. Levi was a very successful individual who contributed much to his family and community. He became a farmer, stock-raiser, builder, millwright, and school teacher. When he was in his late 20s and getting his family started, his father gave him several slaves to help with all the different types of work. He took part in the community life and was an active member of the Methodist Church. At his death in 1872, he was buried in a family cemetery near Bullock." (Diane Eiland, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~eilandfamily/html/fam07075.htm)

"Some Eiland researchers believe this family line descended from Absalom Eiland, who was an early settler in North Carolina and Georgia. He or an earlier ancestor immigrated from the country of Wales.
It is believed that Levi Daniel Eiland, born circa 1785, was a son of Absalom and his wife, Nancy Ann (Daniel). This family moved to Washington County, Ga., around the time Levi was born. Their property later fell in Hancock County when it was formed. Other likely children of Absalom and Nancy include Enoch, James, Asa, Daniel, Steven, Nancy and possibly Elizabeth (Eiland) Thompson. There were several others most likely.
Levi Daniel Sr. was in Alabama as early as 1830 according to census reports. It is not known when he lived in Covington County nor how long, but at one time he owned a small farm at Bell's Crossing near the eastern border. He apparently lived mostly in the edge of Coffee County as he served there as a Justice of the Peace from 1819 to 1850. He also served as the tax collector sometime before the war.

He took part in the community life and was an active member of the Methodist Church. At his death in 1872, he was buried in a family cemetery near Bullock.
Levi was married to Catherine "Katie" Shaw circa 1811. They reared the following children: Isaiah, b. 1812, m. Sarah Caffey; Lucinda "Lucy," b. 1814, m. 1830 Mathew Wilson; Rebecca, b. 1816, m. General Notes: Husband -

Amos Mansell ROWL is the son of James Washington and Eugenia ROWL, named at age 4 in the 1910 census. His father was first married about 1897 to Willie B., 19, as named in the 1900 census. Another wife, Eugenia, 32, to whom he has been married for 7 years is named in the 1910 census and should be the mother of Amos, age 4.

The 1920 census shows yet a third wife, Nancy L., 40, in 1920, seemingly Amos' step-mother. The gap in ages between Amos, 14, and his siblings, Charlie, 5, and Durell, 3, may indicate that they are half-brothers by Nancy L. EAST, whose mother, Martha EAST, resides in the household.

General Notes: Husband -

Son Richard is listed in the 27 Jan 1750/51 last will and testament of Richard PARKER , Jr., of Albemarle Parish, Surry County, Province of Virginia.

Note: Richard PARKER, brother of Frederick PARKER who named Richard's children in his Will, is named as Richard PARKER III by John W. Pritchett in Southside Genealogies, p. 2038. Frederick's brother Richard married Mary BLUNT and appears to this compiler to be Richard the fourth. Interestingly, Richard and Mary do not have a son Richard listed among their children.

General Notes: Wife -

Mary Ann BLYTHE's daughter. Martha A. HUGHES made the followind deposition in regard to her Cherokee heritage in Application 222:
Court of Claims, Eastern Cherokee Indians
Cherokee County Courthouse, Murphy, NC, July 15, 1908
Witness re: App. No. 222
Martha A. HUGHES, being first duly sworn, deposes and says:
I am 68 years of age; am the mother of 4746, William F. HUGHES; was born in Cherokee County, NC. I claim my Indian blood through my mother, Mary Ann BLYTHE. The parents of Mary Ann BLYTHE were Jonathan BLYTHE and Annie or Nancy BLYTHE. My mother was born in South Carolina. Do not know just what part of South Carolina. She died about eight years ago. She was about 86 or 87 years old I think. I had four brothers and two sisters older than I. My oldest brother was about 12 years older than I am. My oldest brother was born in Macon County. I do not know how long my mother had been living there when my brother was born. My mother was married in South Carolina. I never saw my grandmother, Annie BLYTHE. I do not know if she was dead when I was born. In 1851 my mother lived in Cherokee County, NC. I was living there also. I never heard her say she was enrolled or received any money at that time. I never received any money as an Indian in 1851-52. If my mother had received any money for me or herself, I would have known it. My mother and father were known all around at that time. There was no reason why a government officer could not have found my mother. I do not know if I ever heard her speak of them enrolling people at that time. I have heard my mother say that we had Cherokee Indian blood in us and that has been thrown up to us many times by the people around. My people did not deny it and did not resent being called Indians. I do not know that I ever heard my mother say just how much Indian blood she had. I do not know that I ever heard her say how much Indian blood my grandmother had. My mother when she moved to North Carolina moved among the Indians. I have heard her speak of living out there where the Indians were down in South Carolina where she was married. The Indians she lived among were living in South Carolina. I never heard of her living amongst any Indians but the Cherokees and suppose she was living among the Cherokees in South Carolina. I have never before filed a claim for Cherokee money or land. I never heard of any opportunity to file before this time. The first time I had my attention called to it was about 25 or 30 years ago when James TAYLOR and Mrs. LOCKWOOD came to me about it. All I did was to give her my name and the names of my children. I always heard that I had Cherokee blood but that was the first time I knew it would draw anything. After that time I let the matter drop until I filed this application.
Martha A. HUGHES (typed name)
Subscribed and sworn to before me this fifteenth day of July, 1908.
