Cyrus, son Moses Harvey Moore Canon, b 1807 NC, d.1874, and wife Elixa Houston Canon, 1819 NC 1897 MS; and son Alfred Orville Canon, b. 1812 NC, d. 1879 MS and wife Elzabeth Hope Canon b. NC all came to Marshall Co. in 1839 after the death of John's wife Martha [elsewhere named as Mary, a typo here as Martha?] Scott "Polly" Moore in 1839. Alfred's wife Elizabeth and he owned a farm in Red Banks. MS. Elizabeth died and Alfred married Ester Stinson, widow of James Turner Stinson in Apr. 1852...The only child that I have listed for Alfred and Ester is Cora Lea Canon, my maternal ggrandmother. I don't have the children of Alfred and Elizabeth." (Raiford Pittman)

The 1860 census lists Alfred's wife as "Louisa" and as "Easter" in 1870. She is likely Easter/Ester Louisa or vice versa.
DISCUSSION & QUESTIONS: Alfred marries "Ester" in 1852; Elizabeth then would be the mother of all the children over 8 in the1860 census. Who are Thomas H., 20, and John C.,17, in 1870 but not listed with A. O.'s family in 1860? Cora, 10, and Willie, 7, in 1870 are children by "Easter Louisa." Margaret is 6 in 1860, but 20 in 1870, mother is ?

General Notes: Husband - Henry COOK

Henry COOK [Jr.] was a son of Henry and Mary COOK, her maiden name not known. She was the first of his father's three wives and died after 1747. Based on his [Jr's] death in 1764, and his leaving three children, he was born circa 1740.

Henry was given 330 acres on Fountain Creek and 246 acres on Cattail Creek in 1760. Henry was married to Eleanor before 24 October 1763 when they sold the 246 acre tract to David PEEBLES, husband of Henry's sister Elizabeth. In his Will dated 21 January 1764, proved 23 April 1764 in Brunswick County, Virginia, Henry bequeathed the 330 acres to his son Thomas, named his wife Eleanor, and bequeathed a slave to each of his daughters, Mary and Salley.

Are there probate records for Henry's estate? Mary and Salley [Sarah?"] were likely minors; if so, who was their guardian? Curiously, Mary and Sarah are the names of two of the three listed children of Henry's brother John COOK and Elizabeth "Betty" BROWN. Are they Henry's daughters raised by John?

This will devised two slaves to his wife and two to each of his children, and to his three sons in addition to his lands in Fairfax and Westmoreland he bequeathed land in Northumberland which fell to him on the death of Colonel PRESLEY. He married Margaret _____, who died (will made Oct. 11, 1753 and probated May 27, 1755), believed to be the daughter of Moore and Margaret (MOORE) FAUNTLEROY, as their daughter Margaret married a Mr. NEALE.
Richard NEALE of Westmoreland County, born 1743, died 1816. He took a prominent and active part in affairs of church and State; served with distinction in the Revolutionary War. Presley NEALE comes from a long line of NEALEs in Northumberland and Westmoreland counties. On July 21, 1789 he bought from the heirs of the patentee, John BUTLER, 275 acres of land, and on September 2, 1811 he sold to the trustees appointed by Nomini Baptist Church of Christ, John NEALE, Berryman REAMY, and Alick SAUNDERS, "a parcel of land containing 1 acre situated on the north side of the road from Oak Grove to Montross and on which a new brick church has recently been built."

Camillus LESTER served the Confederacy in the War Between the States, serving in the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, later part of the 7th Georgia Cavalry. He is named on the Unit roster of Company H, as was Heyward LESTER, possibly his father, William H. LESTER. "Lester, Camulus GA Hardwick Mtd.Rifles Co.A 7th Cav. Co.H Bugler" (http://ernieiler.tripod.com/7th_soldiers/hmr_roster.html)

7TH GEORGIA CAVALRY REGIMENT was organized during the spring of 1864 at Rome, Georgia. It was formed by consolidating the 21st and 24th Georgia Cavalry Battalions and J. L. McAllister's Hardwick Mounted Rifles. The men were recruited in Augusta and Hardwick [Ga] and the counties of Miller, Randolph, Banks, and Wayne. Ordered to Virginia, the regiment was placed in P. M. B. Young's and Gary's Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia. It participated in The Wilderness Campaign and later the battles about Cold Harbor and conflicts south of the James River. Sent to Georgia, the 7th Cavalry was dismounted and with 200 men took part in the defense of Savannah. It returned to Virginia and continued the fight around Petersburg and Appomattox. The unit surrendered 3 officers and 39 men. Colonel William P. White, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph L. McAllister, and Majors Edward C. Anderson, Jr. and John N. Davies were in command. General Notes: Wife - Elizabeth --?--

The surname of Elizabeth, wife of Abel R. BLAKENEY, is not proven. Census records indcate she was born between 1804 and 1807 in Maryland.

A marriage license in Baltimore City, Maryland records "Elizabeth DENNEAL" married Abel R. BLAKENEY, Jr., on 28 December 1824. He was a son of Abel BLAKENEY and Mary O'DANIEL of Fairfax and Alexandria counties, Virginia and later the District of Columbia. In conflict is an Ancestry.com posting by the DODGE family says she was Elizabeth DENMEAD.

Concerning DENNEAL, DENEAL: Elizabeth may be a descendent of James C. DENEALE and Theodosia CONYERS of Fairfax County, Virginia. There was both a family and social relationship between the DENEAL(E), O'DANIEL and BLAKENEY families of Fairfax County. The DENEAL(E) family was in Stafford, that part later Prince William in 1731, and Fairfax in 1742, from the early 1700s into the 1800s as were the family of William O'DANIEL. The names John C. and George DENEALE Clerks of the Court in Fairfax, appear on O'DANIEL family records for most of 50 years, including the 1798 Will of John O'DANIEL. The BLAKENEY family was in Fairfax and that part later in Alexandria County in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Abel R. BLAKENEY's mother was Mary O'DANIEL, a granddaughter of John O'DANIEL, Sr. John's sister, Catherine O'DANIEL married Henry GUNNELL; their son James married Ann DENEAL, daughter of James C. DENEALE and Theodosia CONYERS. The DENEAL family was also associated with the BLAKENEY family as Masons. Abel BLAKENEY built George Washington's coffin. Colonel George DENEALE, Mason, lead the President's Masonic funeral procession, and as Alexandria County Clerk of the Court is a signatory on the probate of George WASHINGTON's will. Of particular interest is the Abel BLAKENEY and George DENEALE families being next door neighbors in the 1808 census of Alexandria County. The BLAKENEY family moved from Alexandria County, Virginia to Maryland between 1810 and 1820. Although a Denneal or Deneal family has not been found in Maryland in 1800, 1810 or 1820, their association with the Blakeney family and proximity in Virginia and the District of Columbia is considerable. [Re: The "John DENMEAD" below. George DENEALE had a son John, born 1757, named in George's Will dated 1818. John DENEALE's family, if any, is not known to this compiler.]

Concerning DENMEAD: A DODGE family posting on Ancestry.com assigns Elizabeth DENMEAD, daughter of John DENMEAD and Polley ROSECAAS, as both the wife of Edward BLAKENEY (not Abel R.) and the mother of Sarah Elizabeth BLAKENEY, wife of James DODGE. No other information is given on John DENMEAD and family.
The only Denmead listed in the 1800 & 1810 censuses of Baltimore County, Maryland is John DENMEAD. In 1800 he is age 26 to 45 and has three males 16-26 and two females under 10 in his household, among others. In 1810, listing wards 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Baltimore, he is one of two males 26-45 and has two males under 10 and two females under 10, among others. A second John DENMEAD entry in 1810 in Soldiers Delight Hundred, Baltimore, enumerates only a 7 in the "All others" column.
Historic graves of Maryland and the District of Columbia, p. 128, lists two DENMEAD graves in the "Joshua Talbott burying ground" in Baltimore County. The parenthetical information is contained in the entries:
"John DENMEAD, (father of the late Adam D. Sr) died (ab) 1835."
"Eliza (Denmead) wife of Joshua F. C. TALBOTT and sister of the late Adam DENMEAD, Sr. Born April 2, 1801 Died Mar. 12, 1842." [Note: This Eliza died 9 days after the birth of her daughter Susan Eliza on Mar. 3, 1842, her grave also listed. RLD]
The entries proves an Eliza DENMEAD was John's daughter and that she did not marry a BLAKENEY.
QUESTION: Was there another Elizabeth DENMEAD with a daughter Elizabeth born about 1804 who did? In 1820, Adam DENMEAD, over 45, in Ward 3, Baltimore, Maryland, has one female age 10 to 16 and another age 16-26 in his household.

Census records for 1870 and 1880 list Elizabeth BLAKENEY, widow, aged 64 and 76 respectively, living with her daughter, Sarah E. DODGE, in Laurel, Prince Georges County, Maryland. In 1880, the enumerator first recorded Elizabeth's father as born in Ireland, lined through that, and entered Denmark above it. [Series: T9 Roll: 514 Page: 214]

Obituary: "At Laurel, Md,. on February 1, 1889, Mrs. ELIZABETH BLAKENEY, in her 85th year, relict of the late Abel R. Blakeney, of Baltimore. Funeral 2 P. M. on Sunday, 2d instant, from the Episcopal Church, Laurel, Md. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend." [The Sun, Baltimore, Maryland, Saturday, February 2, 1889, Page 2

NICHOLAS MERIWETHER II was born 26 Oct 1667 in James City, Surry County, Virginia, and died in the fall of 1744, possibly in early November, as his will was filed on 05 Nov 1744 in Goochland County, Virginia. He married ca 1688-89 in New Kent County, Virginia to Elizabeth Crawford, daughter of David Crafford and Jane ----. Elizabeth was born in 1672 in Assassquin, New Kent County, Virginia and died in 1762 in Cloverfields, Albemarle County, Virginia. Nicholas was only 11 when his father died. In April 1695 the first appearance of Nicholas II in a matter of record is that of his petitioning the court, along with his sister Elizabeth and her husband Francis Clements, to act as an administrator of the estate of their brother William Meriwether.

"Benjamin LAKER is considered to be one of the First Families of North Carolina, that is he settled in the Province of Carolina ...by 1680 .... deputy to one of the Lords Proprietors of Carolina ... bought land in Perquimans Precinct (Albemarle County, North Carolina) shortly after 1680 ... was a resident of Betchworth Parish, Surry County, England and a member of the family of that name in the vicinity of ... Guildford, Dorking and Reigate .. is known to have been a staunch dissenter ... left England with sufficient funds to begin his life in Carolina as a man of substance ... purchased 400 acres and settled with his wife [Elizabeth] and family of six children to the life of a planter. ... The climate of carolina was difficult for Benjamn's family... his son and oldest daughter died within a short time ...Elizabeth and two other daughters dying later ... Benjamin married a second time, and a third time to Juliana HUDSON TAYLOR.... it would seem that his daughter Lydia LAKER was a daughter of Elizabeth and came to Carloina with her father and mother... Benjamin LAKER made his will April 7, 1701 and died April 8, 1701... specific bequests of books expounding his Baptist faith to his daughter, Sarah HARVEY, and to George BLEIGHTON, the husband of his daughter, Lydia... left his land to his beloved wife, Juliana to be at her disposal and also a Negro girl and a mare. The rest of his property was to be divided equally between his wife and his daughter, Ruth....his wife the executrix of his estate."
