General Notes: Husband - Rev. Peyton BIBB

"BIBB, PEYTON, planter and Methodist minister was born May 26, 1784, in Prince Edward County, Va., and died October 13, 1840, at his home near Robinson Springs, Elmore County; son of William and Sally (Wyatt) BIBB; brother of Gov. William Wyatt BIBB (q. v.); Gov. Thomas BIBB (q. v.); John Dandridge BIBB (q. v.); and of Benajah Smith BIBB (q. v.). He removed to Alabama from Abbeville District, S. C., in 1820, settling in Autauga, now Elmore County, and built a residence called "Spring Hill," about eight miles north of Montgomery. He built a tanyard and on a nearby creek a grist mill and navigated the Alabama River to Mobile for supplies by means of fiat-boats. He placed on the river two steamboats, the Monroe and the Caroline, the first is thought probably to have been the second boat to ascend the river as high as Montgomery. For a time he lived in Montgomery and for the last fifteen years preceding his death was a Methodist Protestant minister. Married: about 1818, to Martha Cobb, niece of William Cobb. Children: 1. Nancy, m. James Terry; 2. Edna, m. Zachariah Watkins; 3. Harriet, m. Dr. Albert Gallatin Goodwyn, parents of Albert Taylor Goodwyn (q. v.); 4. Peyton Dandridge; 5. Joseph B. BIBB (q. v.); 6. James BICKERSTAFF and his brothers-in-law, Richard and Robert HOWARD were charged with murdering Thomas Colbert DAWSON on 11 November 1890 at the Exposition grounds in Columbus, Georgia. Thomas was the estranged husband of Richard and Robert's sister, Ruth HOWARD. The three men did not deny the killing. The Columbus Daily Enquirer reported extensively on the killing and trial for over a year. Conflicting testimony concerning both the killing, self-defense or murder, and the circumstances of the forced marriage between Thomas and Ruth, coupled with the causes of conflict between Richard and Thomas, were publicly aired. On 17 November 1891, the jury found James and his brothers-in-law not guilty of murder.

*This record published in the The Reformer, Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Dec 20 1900, conflicts with the date of death above for Sammie. Is this for the baby "no dates"? Both Frankie and Sammie are listed in the 1900 census and no other young child is listed that might fit the term "two year old son" Two month old?: "Died Friday November 31, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bilderback, of what the doctors called scarlet fever." General Notes: Wife - Pamelia HALBERT

"Pamelia HALBERT was born in Lewis County, Kentucky, about 1804. On 11 April 1825, a marriage license was issued to her and James BILDERBACK, both over 21. The marriage record was not returned. Nathan HALBERT, her brother, went security for her. In 1815, Stephen HALBERT bought 160 acres on the little fork of Salt Lick from Henry HALBERT. In 1832, he sold this land to his two brothers-in-law, Richard BAGBY and James BILDERBACK, presumably, the balance of 95 acres. BILDERBACK was a man of prominence and in 1847 was elected to the Legislature and served two years." (William C. Halbert, Sr) William continued, apparently in error, "They had a number of children of which the only one whose name is known was Nathan. They continued to live on Salt Lick farm until Pamelia's death in 1853."

Parmelia HALBERT apparently died soon after the birth of her daughter Parmelia on 20 January 1837 because James BILDERBACK married second Sarah FORD on 18 Jun 1837 per Greg Croxton, BILDERBACK researcher, posting on Rootsweb. Greg states that James' children born after 1837 were by Sarah who is listed with James in the 1850 census of Lewis County, Kentucky.

General Notes: Husband - Capt. Americus Columbus MITCHELL, CSA

Americus Columbus "Mac" MITCHELL was born in Hancock County, Georgia, later moving to Harris County, Georgia before moving with his father and mother to Glennville, Alabama in 1835. He was said to be a fine type of "pre-war" gentleman, well respected and loved by many.

"Married; 4 Sept.1841,Clinton GA. 4 Sept 1841 by Rev.George

"Mac" was elected to the Alabama State Senate both before and after the War Between the States. He was a Captain of the Glennville Home Guard and was with his third son, W. A. MITCHELL, on his way to the front when General Robert E. LEE surrendered. He later fought in the Mexican War. His beautiful old home is still intact, owned by Frank ELMORE who has kept it as originally built, and now called "Elmoreland." This home may have burned down in 1895.

Americus MITCHELL, son of Catherine DANIELL, James L. DANIELL's sister, was the guardian of Samuel C. and Juliet A. DANIELL, the minor children of his Uncle James Levi DANIELL.

General Notes: Wife - Saleta Henry BINION

Saleta Henry BINION married James Irwin BUTTS, son of Capt. James BUTTS, Revolutionary War soldier.

The appraisers for [Capt.] James BUTTS' estate were Benjamin HARPER, John B. SIMMONS, James W. SIMMONS, Henry GAREY, George AMOSS, and Robert B. BINION.

"My name is Terry Binion and I am descended from the Binion family of Sparta, Georgia (Hancock County). My research shows that SALETA HENRY BINION was born March 2, 1815 and was the daughter of Robert B. Binion (d 1842) and Sarah Sidney Roe (d. June 16, 1865). Robert and Sarah married about 1813/14 near Sparta, Georgia. Sarah Roe probably grew up in the Harper-Roe house which is still standing. John Roe built it in 1802. It was moved from its original location about 15 years ago by Dr. Joe Specht, then president of Middle Georgis College. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution featured it not long after Dr. Specht moved it." Hugh "Hughie" DANIELL, born 2 June 1907 in Florida, was the son of Sarah Ellen DANIELL. He was called "Hughie." His parents did not marry. Charles Loyd DANIELL said Hughie's father was a man named FLOWERS.

Hughie was not listed with his mother in the 1910 census of Duval County, Florida. He has not been found in censuses until 1930 when he is 23, single, living with his mother in the home of his Uncle James I. DANIELL who owned the dairy in which "Hughes", as named in the census, worked as a dairyman. [NARA Publication: T626 Roll 314, Film Number: 2340049, Digital Folder Number: 4531935, Image Number: 01072, Enumeration District Number: 72, Family Number: 218, Sheet Number and Letter: 10A, Line Number: 3]

On September 28, 2002, I spoke with Mr. Tom Keene who was 76 years old and lived on Cemetery Road, a few houses south of Smith Cemetery. When I asked about the cemetery and the Daniell family buried there, he said he knew of the Daniell family and knew Jim Daniell. When asked about Hughie, he said he knew "Hoodie" too, but "Hoodie" wasn't buried there. Asked about his pronunciation of "Hoodie" (Who Dee), Tom told me that "Hoodie" had a deformed mouth and that everyone called him "Hoodie" because that was how he said his name. From Tom's comments, Hughie may have had a cleft palate. Pressed for information on "Hoodie", Tom told me that Hoodie had gone to California in the late 1940's after James died and had married there. [Possible second marriage?] He returned to Jacksonville in 1950 after a divorce. It was then that the Keene family bought the Daniell dairy farm, apparently from "Hoodie", who sold it to cover debts. Tom said Hughie died in Jacksonville, but isn't buried in the Daniell, now Smith, Cemetery. [RLD]

Hugh Daniell divorced Adelaide E Daniell in 1950 in Duval County, Florida. ["Florida, Divorce Index, 1927-2001," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VK7F-GD5 : accessed 11 February 2015), Hugh Daniell and Adelaide E Daniell, 1950; from "Florida, Divorce Index, 1927-2001," Ancestry; citing Duval, Florida, certificate 11614, volume 518, Florida Department of Health, Jacksonville.]

Hugh Daniell's Florida death certificate, 89913, provides that he was born 2 Jun 1907 and died in Duval County on 8 Sep 1987. The Social Security Death Index mirrors the certificate: HUGH DANIELL 02 Jun 1907 Sep 1987 32219 Jacksonville, Duval, FL (none specified) 267-16-2934 Florida.

Find A Grave Memorial# 58508222 created by Teresa Griffis on Sep 11, 2010 lists Hugh's birth on Jun. 2, 1907, his death on Sep. 8, 1987, and his burial in Jones Cemetery-Callahan, Callahan, Nassau County, Florida. This obituary is posted there:

In Smith Cemetery, there is a grave marked "V. R. HUGHES, Dec 18, 1890 NOV 4, 1931." Ellen Daniell's son was named Hugh and called "Hughie." Ellen never married; could this be a relative of Hughie? Varley R. HUGHES 39 and family, wife Nettie L., 34 and six children lived 10 homes away from the DANIELL residence.

In the 1930 census, George W. HUGHES, 45, single, born in Florida, lives five homes away from the DANIELL residence. Varley R. HUGHES, 261 266, and family are also in the neighborhood.

Obituary: Jewel LEADER, Everett [Pennsylvania]
Jewel Christine LEADER, 86, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, from home, with her family at her side. She was born July 22, 1921, in Upson County, Georgia, a daughter of the late George W.[*] and Stella (Daniels) BISHOP. She was preceded in passing away by a great-granddaughter, Christine; two sisters: Dorothy HELMS and Lynell TOWNSEND; and three brothers: Melvin BISHOP, Carl BISHOP, and Delmetia BISHOP.
On September 19, 1940, in Thomaston, Georgia, she married David LEADER, Jr. who survives along with their children, Violet M. KLINE, and husband John S. KLINE, of Hopewell; Ronald D. LEADER, and wife Ginny (Wright) LEADER, of Foley, Ala; LaVerne C. BOLLMAN, and husband Philip B. BOLLMAN, of Everett; Daniel L. LEADER, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Mavis (Bishop) BROWNLEE, and a brother, George T. Bishop, both of Stockbridge, Georgia.
Mrs. LEADER had the longest membership, and was the last living charter member of the Everett Church of God. At the start, she and her husband hosted worship services in their home and attended services at the homes of their church family, before the present church was built. Jewel was an active member of the Church, helping in any way she could, having sung in the choir and spending time with church members who were under the weather, either at home or in the hospital.
Early in her lifetime, she worked with her husband at a Georgia cotton mill, and after moving here, She worked various jobs at Reeds' Romar Restaurant in Everett, the Gateway Restaurant in Breezewood, and at Bedford Steam Laundry. Jewel was an exceptional homemaker and cook, who especially enjoyed canning the vegetables from her garden and sharing her home with everyone she knew.
