Obituary for Carol Anderson, 1936 - 2010
Service: Tuesday, December 28, 2010 10:30 AM, Cross Point Assembly God Church
On Wednesday, December 22, 2010, Carol D. Anderson, of Spring Hill, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 74. She courageously battled pancreatic cancer for 16 months under the exceptional care of Dr. Singh and the staff at Research Medical Center.
Carol was born June 10, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the loving daughter of Buford Edward and Mildred Bernice Shank Braly.
Carol's greatest joys came from her relationship with Jesus and from her pride in her family. Carol was a member of Cross Point Assembly of God Church in Paola at the time of her death and previously was a long-time member of Shawnee Church of the Nazarene, where she was the volunteer organist for over 25 years. She devoted much time to Bible study and prayer, often in the company of her many friends at church and with the assistance of her beloved pastors.
Carol is survived by her three daughters, Denise Sprague of Spring Hill, Liz (Ted) Lockhart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jenny (Jim) Adkins of Paola; sister, Elaine (Ken) Matson, of Panama City, Florida; grandchildren Mike Sprague and Kayla (Jeff) Morris of Spring Hill; grandchildren TC, Nicholas, Madelynne and Annabella Lockhart of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Alec, Cody, Julia, Caroline and Katherine Adkins of Paola; niece Kristine (Michael) King of Mobile, Alabama; nephew Neil (Jill) Matson of Panama City, Florida; and three great grandchildren and three great nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of twenty years, Willard G. Anderson.
She worked for Browning Motors for many years before joining her son-in-law and staff at the State Farm Office in Paola as a receptionist, greeting and helping customers for over 7 years.
Carol loved playing the piano, reading the Bible, raising and showing Afghan Hounds, growing roses and watching football on television. She was devoted to her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services are Tuesday, December 28, 10:30 a.m. at Cross Point Church in Paola and arrangements were handled by Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Paola. Memorials may be made to the Miami County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or Cross Point Assembly of God Church in Carol's honor.

General Notes: Husband -

W. D. ANDREWS, county treasurer, is a native of Barbour county and son of Dr. W. and Martha (Daniel) Andrews, and was born November 19, 1855. His early educational training embraced the studies usually taught in the common schools, and subsequently, in 1877, he took a full course in Eastman's Business college at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., receiving his diploma the latter part of that year. In 1878 he began farming in Barbour county, but two years later relinquished agricultural pursuits and engaged in merchandising, which he continued about two years and then disposed of his stock and accepted a position as bookkeeper with B. B. Conner at Harris. He was thus employed till 1891, at which time he resigned the position and became railroad agent at Harris. In addition to, his duties as agent, Mr. Andrews is extensively engaged in farming, and is also administrator of the large estate of his father, which consisted of 3,000 acres of land owned jointly with B. B. Conner, and 1,500 acres belonging exclusively to the Andrews family. Mr. Andrews has been a leading politician of Barbour county for some years, but not until recently would he permit the use of his name for any official position. At the earnest solicitation of his many friends he offered himself, in the spring of 1891, as candidate for the office of county treasurer, and such was his popularity that he was complimented by receiving the nomination on the first ballot by a very flattering majority. Mr. Andrews is deservedly popular with the people of Barbour county, and is certainly a businessman of superior sagacity. He is a member of Ebenezer lodge, No. 210, F. & A. M., and also to the Pythian order. His wife, Lena Boyer, daughter of George Boyer, whom he married on the 25th of April, 1888, has borne him two children : Ernestine and Rhett. Dr. Andrews' father was born in Wilkes county, Ga., in the year 1819. He graduated from the medical department of the Pennsylvania university, began the practice at Eufaula, Ala., in 1841, and followed the profession there till 1859, at which time located in the vicinity of Spring-Hill. He married his first wife, Martha Daniel, in 1842, and by her became the father of several children, but one of whom, W. D. Andrews, is living. Dr. Andrews was a prominent member of the Methodist church and for many years exerted a powerful influence for good in the community. He departed this life in August, 1881. Additional Comments: from "Memorial Record of Alabama" (Author: Brant & Fuller, 1893)

On 19 May 1891, W. D. ANDREWS was included as an heir to the estate of James L. DANIEL under "The Heirs of Martha ANDREWS, Barbour County, Ala." in a filing to the Barbour County, Alabama Probate Court.

General Notes: Husband -

John Thomas DANIELL, born in Baldwin County, Georgia on 6 July 1820, is the third son of Jesse DANIELL and Mary A. TUCKER. His date of birth was part of the Family Record "from the Holy Bible printed in 1816" copied into his mother's 1878 Widow's Pension Application and certified to the court to be genuine by Daniel R. TUCKER, an officer of the court and Mary's brother. As with many of Jesse's descendants, John' surname evolved to DANIEL as he grew older.

John Thomas is the younger of the two males "under 10" listed in Jesse DANIELL's household in the 1820 census. John Thomas' name may honor two men, John DANIEL, who raised Jesse as an orphan, and John L. THOMAS, about Jesse's age, who lived two homes away from Jesse in 1820.

John and Lucinda DANIEL are named in 1850 in the household of Thomas & Evilina ANGLE, Lucinda's parents in Muscogee County, Georgia. Later censuses show that John Thomas was a farmer and a Methodist minister of the gospel.

The marriage certificate accompanying the Indigent widow's pension appliaction of Lucinda Daniel [sic] records that John Thomas DANNELL (sic) married Lucinda ANGLE on Sept 8, 1850 in Muscogee Co. Georgia.

John and Lucinda had seven children: Jesse T., John A., Mary C., Robert Franklin, Ellen L., Albertina Augusta, and Lillie Emma.

In the settlement of the estate of John Thomas' mother, Mary A. DANIEL, in Baldwin County, Georgia, Nov 1881, Thomas DANIEL is named as an heir, whereabouts not known, but he was in Tallapoosa County, Alabama according to census information. His share of the estate and that of his brother James was entrusted to Samuel W. DAVIS, administrator, "until the same is claimed or demanded by them or until further order of said court." Samuel was Thomas' nephew, son of his sister, Martha Ann, wife of William A. DAVIS. It is not known if John Thomas ever collected his $29.80.

"John T. Daniel said in his civil war pension application in 1897 (filed in Heard County, Georgia) that he was born July 6, 1820 in "Bladwin" County, which I think was probably Baldwin Co. Georgia. The 1820 census index in Georgia shows a Jesse Daniel in Baldwin Co. GA who might have been his father. Lucinda, wife of John T. Daniel, says in her widow's civil war pension application in 1905 that he died in Troup Co. Georgia on April 21, 1905. She filed for the pension while living in Troup Co. Georgia. She was noted to be 80 years old in 1905. Rev. J. T. Daniel 1819 - ____ (no death date given). Did not see Lucinda his wife listed. He is buried at Hill View Cemetery in LaGrange, GA (Troup Co.) Lucinda was 82 years old in 1907 in Troup Co. GA when she reapplied for her pension and that was the last record in the file for her." (Re: John T . Daniel & Lucinda Angle Author: Candace Gravelle Date: 22 Aug 2004, Posted at the Rootsweb, Heard County Message Board.)

By 1900, they had returned to Georgia, living in Lowell, Carroll County.

General Notes: Wife -

Lucinda ANGLE, daughter of Thomas and Evilina ANGLE of Muscogee County, Georgia, was born in 1835. She may be a fraternal twin to her brother, Francis, both are listed as age 15 in the 1850 census.

Lucinda married Rev. John Thomas DANIELL on 8 September 1850 in Muscogee County, Georgia. They resided in her parents' household in the 1850 census.

Lucinda and John T. had at least seven children between 1852 and 1875.

After John T. died in 1905, Lucinda lived with her daughter, Lillie Emma DANIEL and husband Robert Lee PRUITT. Emma died in 1913. "Lucindy", age 80, in 1920, still resides with her son-in-law, Robert, in Coweta County, Georgia.

Lucinda Daniel filed for a Indigent widow's pension in 1907, Application number 2295. Her application was signed by "Her Mark" and includes a copy of her marriage certificate which lists her husband as "John Thomas Dannell." Lucinda gave power of attorney for receipt of her Indigent widow's pension to Philip Cook of Atlanta, Georgia. Philip was a cousin to the descendants of Levi Daniell and Martha Pearson Cook, daughter of Capt. John Cook, and to Martha and her second husband, John Daniel, Levi's cousin. Rev. John Thomas Daniell was cousin to Levi.

Edna later married an ARCHER who predeceased her. Her death certificate provides: Edna Lee ARCHER, born 8 June 1917, Chatsworth, Georgia, died 26 November 2001 in Vancor Hospital, Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, and buried in Southern Memorial Park, North Miami, Florida was a daughter of Edward BISHOP and Trudy LONG. Edna shares a grave marker with John O. HACK who was born Sep. 17, 1910 and died Dec. 4, 1981. Although her marker says ARCHER, her grave is indexed at the cemetery as Edna Lee HACK buried in Section 14, Lot 326, Space 2 in Southern Memorial Park, North Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida.
