General Notes: Husband -
Little has been found on Lodowick "Lod" Hill DANIEL, born 17 February 1847, son of John William DANIEL and Sarah Lark ROBISON.
Lodowick H. DANIEL married Frances WORRELL on 7 November 1865. [Butler County, Alabama Marriage Book 1865-68, p. 14]
Lodowick DANIEL has not been located in the 1870 census. There is an "L. P. DANIELS" age 21, apparently single, in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, our Lod? He is a farm laborer in the household of Stephen D. MOORE, 57, from South Carolina. St. Landry is just southeast of Grant and Rapides parishes, and borders Avoyelles Parish where Lodowick is in 1880, 1910 and 1920 respectively.
According to the 1910 census, Lod was married four times, last to Alice JOLLY about 1904. Curiously, in 1910 there were no children in his and Alice's household from previous marriages. Only three of his wives are known: Frances WORRILL, Celine, married before 1875, and Alice, married in 1903.
1880 U.S. Census, Louisiana, Grant Parish, 2-Wd, 1 June 1880; Series T9 Roll: 453 Page: 232: DANIELS Lodwick W M 34 M Farmer AL AL AL; -- Celina W F 35 Wife M AL AL GA; BERRYMAN Lenard W M 13 Stepson TX AL AL; DANIELS Alphus W M 5 Son S TX AL AL.
Lodowick "Lod" Hill DANIEL married about 1904 Alice Telazele JOLLY, daughter of George Washington JOLLY and Melissa Ann BARDWELL. At that time, Lodowick, was 57, and Alice, 16. It was his fourth marriage, according to the 1910 census, and her first. They had eleven children. When Lod died in 1925, Alice became a widow, 35, with 8 children ranging in age from one to nineteen. Three children had died young.

Lodowick's age is indexed as 43 in this census. The page clearly shows him age 73.
*"Flossy Son" in this census may be an enumerator's error. "Flossie BARNETT" in the below appears to be a female married to a BARNETT.
Lodowick Hill DANIEL's grave in Craig Cemetery, Rapides Parish, Louisiana is indexed with the following information:
Lodowick Hill "Lod" DANIEL
Birth: February 17, 1847
Death: July 18, 1925
Epitaph: Sleep on dear father and take thy rest Jesus arms forever blest
Spouse: Alice JOLLY

Will of John P. COOK Lowndes County, Alabama Will Book C, page 22:
In the name of God, Amen! I, John P. COOK of the County of Lowndes, State of Alabama, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this rail and transitory life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, that is to say:
First: After my lawful debts are paid and discharged, the residue of my estate, real and personal, I give, bequeath and dispose of as follows, to wit:
To my beloved wife the undivided half of lands and appurtenances situated thereon on which I now reside, except the E 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 21, the West 1/2 of NW 1/4 of Section 22, and E 1/2 of SW 1/4 of Section 10, all in Township 12, Range 14. To my said wife all my household and kitchen furniture, plantation tools, gin, mill, surrey, and wagons, likewise the slaves named as follows: Phoebe, Cally, Henry, Milton, Adams Jr., Mary, Freeman, Adams Sr., Sarah, Lawrence, and Lucy, likewise other slaves to be chosen by my wife from the residue of slaves not given, bequeathed and disposed of by this my last will and testament.
To my daughter, Mary P. COOK, likewise to my wife the first choice of stock of every kind equal in number to the share of each of the other heirs and a comfortable support for one year, after my decease, for her use and benefit forever.
To my daughter, Mary P. COOK (in order to make her equal with the other children in property), the undivided half of land and appurtenances situated thereon, on which I now reside, except E 1/2 of NE 1/4 of Section 21, the NE 1/s of NW 1/f of Section 22, and E 1/2 of SW 1/4 of Section 10, all in Township 12, Range 14, likewise to daughter, Mary P. COOK, slaves named as follows, to wit: Eliza and her family, viz.: Jerry, Dudley, Alex, Holdern, Hillary and Jim Sr., Milly, Emily, and Lercie, likewise the second choice of stock of every kind, equal in number of the share of each of the other heirs, the remainder of stock to be divided equally among the other heirs, share and share alike. After the residue of my real estate, to wit: the E 1/2 of NE 1/r of Section 21, W 1/2 of NW 1/4 of Section 22, and W 1/w of SW 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 10, Township 12, Range 14, after the residue of my slave property, shall have been valued.
To Susannah R. THOMAS, one-forth the valuation of said real and personal property as follows, namely: in lands, E 1/2 of NE 1/4 of Section 21, W 1/2 of SW 1/4 of Section 10, Township 12, Range 14 and slaves for use and behoof forever. To Mary P. COOK, one-fourth of the valuation of said real and personal property in slaves for her own use and behoof forever.
To my son, Nathan B. COOK, one-forth of said valuation of said real and personal property in slaves, the amount of a certain provision note dated March 10th, 1837, drawn for Thirty-six hundred dollars and secured by mortgage shall be considered a part of said share, unless the said note shall be paid to me by the said N. B. COOK, further should my said son, N. B. COOK, died without heirs, then the said share of the said N. B. COOK shall revert back to, and be equally divided among my other heirs. Lastly: I devise that my railroad stock, confederate bonds, moneys on hand and proceeds of the crop of the year of my decease shall be applied to the liquidation of my lawful debts, and the residue, if any, be divided among my heirs, share and share alike. Likewise, I make and appoint and constitute D. T. McCALL, W. A. THOMAS, to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me make. In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal, the tenth day of October, One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty-three John P. COOK (SEAL)
The above written instrument was subscribed by the said John P. COOK in our presence and acknowledged by him to each of us, and he, at the same time, published and declared the above instrument so subscribed to be the last will and testament, and we, at the Testator's request and in his presence have signed our names as witnesses hereto and affixed our seals. Cordelia is a widow in the 1910 census. Joseph is presumed to have died before April 1910.
General Notes: Wife -
Cordelia, age 24 in the 1870 census, is posted on Rootsweb as a daughter of Coleman T. and Zerelda BROWN of Nelson County, Kentucky, but appears to be the wife of their son Joseph and mother of Charles BROWN, age 2 months, in the 1870 census there. She is not listed as a daughter, age 14, in the 1860 census. Zerelda is age 54 in 1870 and is probably too old to have a 2 month old son. Later censuses confirm her as Joseph's wife.
Cordelia is a widow in 1910 and lives in the home of her widowed sister Sallie PORTER.

A Revolutionary War service record: "HARBIRT, John. Fifteen days as horseman at Congarees and forty-two days as footman at Orangeburgh under Col. [Thomas] TAYLOR." A record for John's father, Lt. Thomas HARBIRT is also listed here. [Green's "History of Richland County South Carolina, p. 96]
John HARBIRT married Sarah COOK, daughter of Capt. John COOK of Fairfield County, South Carolina.
John HARBIRT is named in the 1790 census of Fairfield County, South Carolina, "1 1 3 - -." [Series: M637 Roll: 11 Page: 157] He is believed to be the same John HARBIRT later found in Hancock County, Georgia living as neighbor of Capt. John COOK, James DANIELL, and others from Fairfield District, South Carolina who also claimed Revolutionary War bounty land there.
John HARBIRT and his brothers are named in the 2 April 1799 LW&T of their father, Thomas HARBIRT of Hancock County, Georgia: "Item give and bequeath to my sons John, George, and Thomas HARBIRT, one tract of Land containing two hundred and twenty - six acres Lying on Town Creek. And also sixteen Negroes (Viz. Peter, Cloe, Jack, Hannah, Vilet, Jacob, Bob, Hal, Sam, Reuben, Chaney, Ellis, Big Sam, Siller, Peter, Salley) to be equally divided between them..." This Will was witnessed by Levi DANIELL, the son of James DANIELL from Fairfield County, South Carolina.

Being part of a tract containing five hundred and fifty Acres granted to John HARBIRT the Second day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine.
"October 15, 1801 Georgia Gazette: Elections of Members of the General Assembly on Monday the 5th instant. For Hancock County: Henry MITCHELL, Esq., Senator. David ADAMS, John HARBIRT, and Boling HALL, Esq's, Representatives. [http://www.georgiagenealogy.org/hancock2/news%201795%20-%201819.html]
"...at some point (don't remember exact year) while John HERBERT was still in GA, he published an announcement in the newspaper explaining that he had for many years been known as "HARBIRT" but going forward would be "HERBERT." He said that his father had originally been "HERBERT" but over the course of years had drifted away from the family and the name had gradually changed to "HARBIRT." Sounds like he wanted to reconnect at least by name with his family." [Alexis Spiritas, 3/10/2009]
