The results of the murder and robbery trial have not been discovered. It is possible that William Turner, Jr., may have been executed about 1787 for his crimes; however, a chronology of travails with the law and court in Fairfax County for a William Turner, Jr., continued at least through 1792. If the same William Turner, Jr., it would appear that he was released.

On 23 March 1787, in Fairfax County, the executors of Wiseheart's estate sued William Turner, Jr. He was ordered to to pay £23.12.5 and costs. On 24 May 1787, Charles Simms sued William, Jr. for debt. He confessed and was ordered to pay £2000 crop tobacco with interest from 21 February 1785 & costs. On 22 August 1789, John Orr, gent,, sued him. William, Jr., was subsequently ordered to pay James Watkins and his wife Margaret for appearing as witnesses for John Orr and their travel from Loudoun County. In November 1790, John Orr sued William, Jr., again, trespassing. He was ordered to pay costs and for witnesses Henrietta Johnston,2 days, and William Smith,1 day. On 23 June 1791 John Orr sued William, Jr. again for debt. On 21 February 1792, William Lane, Jr., sued William Turner, Jr. attachment, suit dismissed. General Notes: Husband - William TURNER

William Turner, son of Margaret (O')Daniel Turner Nelson, is known from this South Carolina record:
"James and Margaret Nelson of State of South Carolina, District of Fairfield, power of attorney to our dutiful son William Turner of State of Virginia & County of Fairfax, Carpenter, to ask for and demand of John Daniel of the State of Virginia and County of Fairfax the sum of money left by the said John Daniel as a Legacy to the said Margaret Nelson (late Margaret Daniel) ... 3 July 1800. [Fairfield County, South Carolina Deed Book B N., pages 54-55, SC Archives film C301, as cited by Brent Howard Holcomb, Holcomb, Certified Genealogist:, in a report to Mrs. Calhoun J. Killeen of McLean, Virginia, dated September 15, 1992. Copy shared with this compiler.]

William was born about 1780. His mother was Margaret, daughter of John O'Daniel and Mary Moxley of Fairfax County, Virginia. His father has not been proven.

About 1787, apparently widowed, William's mother left Fairfax County, Virginia and went to Fairfield District, South Carolina, joining her brother and sister, William and Frances (May), and her Uncle James Daniel there. Whether Margaret took her son William with her is not known. In 1788, James Nelson married the widow Margaret Daniel Turner in Fairfield District.

Before 1800, Margaret's son was in Fairfax County, Virginia and apprenticed to Abel Blakeney, Carpenter, who had married Margaret Daniel Turner's niece, Mary O'Daniel. William was identified as a carpenter in James and Margaret Daniel Nelson's power of attorney. William ran away about 5 months after he received the power of attorney. He may have returned to South Carolina.

"Six Pence Reward.
RAN away on the 15th inftant, an apprentice lad named WILLIAM TURNER. He is 20 years and 7 months old, is about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high; had on a light coloured cloth coatee, caffimer waiftcoat and narkeen[?] pantaloons. Whoever delivers the faid apprentice to me, fhall receive the above reward and no charges. Abel Blakeney. Nov. 24." [Alexandria Times, November 25, 1800]
Abel may not have been too concerned since he offered a seemingly puny six pence reward.

William Turner, believed to be Margaret's son, married Charlotte Woodward, daughter of Rev. William Woodward. William and Charlotte named their daughter Margaret Daniel Turner. She was born in 1813 in South Carolina, conceivably named for her grandmother.

In the 1820 census of Fairfield District, is a William Turner, age appropriate for Margaret's son, but also age appropriate to be the son of Alexander Turner, listed beside him. James and Margaret Nelson and three sons are listed in Fairfield District. Two unrelated Nelson families are known to have been in Fairfield and neighboring Richland County.

Subject: [TURNER-L] William Turner and Charlotte Woodward
Date: Mon, 16 Mar 1998 12:52:04 -0500
"William Turner was the husband of Charlotte Woodward. Numerous proofs for this can be found in the records of Chester County and adjacent Fairfield County.
Chester Co., SC Estates, Apt. 71, Pkg. 1116 (frame 102) show that Charlotte Woodward was married to a Turner and she was living in 1819.
Chester Co., SC Deed Book U, p. 307, 14 January 1822
Nancy Woodward widow of William Woodward Senr. deceased, John Woodward, William Woodward Jr., Thomas Woodward, Thomas Hill and Jemima Hill his wife, Anemenus Liles and Mary Liles his wife, William Robinson and Ellen Robinson his wife, all of Chester and Fairfield Districts sold to William Turner of Chester District, for $2100, all their right title interest estate inheritance and claim to plantation or tract of land in Chester District on waters of Rocky Creek bounded at time of survey by William McDaniel [description same as in following deed]. Signatures of all grantors given. Witnesses: Green B. Mobley, Geo. W. Hill; and Michael Turnipseed and Thomas W. Mason for Ellin Robertson's signature.
Chester Co., SC Deed Book U, p. 305, 8 February 1823
Willam Turner and Charlotte Turner, wife of said William Turner, of Chester District sold to William E. Sledge, for $300, 611 acres of land on waters of Rocky Creek, bounded at time of late survey by William McDaniel on East, by Thomas Chisholm on South, by widow Bradford and McEwins on West, by Thomas Chisholms and Steven Keenam and N by lands of Jonas McCullough, having shape as per plat references dated 20 December 1810 composed of several grants as specified on plat (the plat was not shown). Signed Wm. Turner, Charlotte Turner. Witneses: John Mills, Rob. Robinson. Witness oath of Rob. Robinson on 8 February 1823 before J. Rosborough, JQ. Dower renounced by Charlotte Turner on 8 February 1823.
Fairfield Co., SC, Deed Book DD, p. 334, 13 February 1823
William Turner of Chester District to William Robinson of Fairfield, for $700 sold 185 acres, a tract of land whereon the said William Turner formerly lived, being part of 2 tracts one grated Jacob Free the other to Lewis Boatner beginning at a persimmon on William Woodwards old tract...by meeting house...on William Rooks line on Frances Ederingtons line...reference to plat and deed from William Woodward Senr. to William Turner dated 10 August 1815. Signed William Turner. Witnesses:Robert D. Ellison, J. Thornton. Dower renounced by Charlotte Turner, wife of William Turner of Chester District 18 February. 1823 before Peter Wylie JQ.
[NOTE: There is no deed recorded in Fairfield where William Woodard sold to William Turner as specified in this deed. However, there is a deed in Chester Co. which was recorded in August 1816 where William Woodward Sr. land sold to William Turner (Chester Co. Deed Book S, p. 15).]
The next deed following this conveyance of William Turner to William Robinson is a deed involving Samuel Nelson and makes reference to James Nelson selling land he did not have a right to sell. It mentioned lands of Thomas Woodward and Owens.
By a power of attorney dated 3 July 1800, James and Margaret Nelson gave "to trusty and dutiful son William Turner" of Fairfax Co., VA power to receive from her father John Daniel's estate which was witnessed by William Robertson Sr. and Jr. It appears to me that William Turner who was married to Charlotte Woodward was possibly the son of Margaret Daniel Turner and a Mr. Turner. Mr. Turner must have died before 1800 and Margaret Daniel Turner had remarried to James Nelson. Margaret's husband may have been a John Turner.
From the 27 January 1826 issue of the "Cheraw Intelligencer and
Southern Register: "Died at Columbia [SC] on the night of the
6th instant, Mrs. Charlotte Turner, eldest daughter of Rev.
William Woodward, deceased, and wife of Mr. William Turner of
that place." Gail Blancett
[<http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/TURNER/1998-03/0890075649>]
I have done extensive research on the Turner families of Chester and Fairfield Counties, SC, and do not believe this William Turner was part of the noted immigrant family headed by William and Margaret Turner who came to Charleston, SC in late 1767. Their known sons were Alexander, John, and James."

From personal research, this compiler agrees that William Turner, son of Margaret Daniel Turner, was the husband of Charlotte Woodward. Robert Louis Daniell.

Gail Blanchett wrote: "Margaret's husband may have been a John Turner." The 25 July 1807 will of John Turner of Fairfield lists his son as William Alexander Turner and at one point refers to him as Alexander Turner. In 1900, Hardy and Texanna VICKERS have had 5 children, 5 living per this census. If so, Lena E. born Sept 1879 per the 1880 census may be Edna P. in 1900 census, but the given birth dates, Sept 1879 in 1880 and Sept 1880 for Edna in 1900 conflict. If not the same person, Lena E. may have died young and Texanna had six children, five living.
