General Notes: Husband -

Dr. Richard P. HUGER was the second husband of Ellen A. AIKEN. From the 1900 census, it appears that she may have been his third wife. The eldest daughter listed is Mary A., born in Alabama, in 1877. Ellen was living in Charleston, South Carolina, notablly, named in the 1880 census with her husband Daniel H. PARKER in her parent's home. Richard's remaining children's mother was born in Georgia, the youngest born in May 1894, but Ellen is correctly shown as born in South Carolina. Additionally, the census indicates Ellen has no children. From this, Ellen may have married Richard about 1895.

Serena Daniel AIKEN, born about 1857, was a daughter of Joseph Daniel AIKEN and Ellen Daniel MARTIN. Serena married Thomas Grange SIMMONS before the 1880 census when they resided in her mother's home in Charleston, South Carolina. Curiously, Serena is named as daughter, Mary, aged 27. ( Was she named Mary Serena or Serena Mary?)
Serena is named in the 1910 census; in the 1920 census, her husband, Thomas Grange SIMONS is reported as a widower. Serena died before 1920.

Note: There is a Pleasant HENRY, age 35, Merchant, in the 1850 census of Cherokee County, North Carolina. Might our Pleasant Henry have been named for him?

General Notes: Wife -

Ida Alice, daughter of Eli Balus Akin and Minerva Jane Tucker, was born in Ranger, North Carolina. She was born 2 Dec 1873, but is age 5 in the 1880 census.

Ida married Ples Henry Ditmore on 25 October 1894. They made their home in Ranger. Between 1895 and 1908, they had six children: Minnie Dale, Nelia Lucille, Bessie Mae, Glenn James, Oliver Lee, and Alice Ida.

About 1909, Ida and Ples moved their family to Caddo County, Oklahoma. She and Ples lived in a community called Ghost Mound in a rural area near Lone Star School of Hydro. Ida was only 36 when she died on 8 October 1910. She was buried 9 October 1910.

Ida's obituary simply stated:
"GHOST MOUND
Mrs. Ditmore near Lone Star school house died Saturday ans was buried in the Mound Valley cemetery Sunday afternoon."

Ida's grave was listed as unmarked in a 2001 canvassing of Mound Valley Cemetery by Ethel Buie and Nancy Charlton (USGenWeb). More than 90 years after Ida's death, her great-granddaughter, Bonnie Bowen, located her grave site in Mound Valley Cemetery and placed a headstone for her.

A picture of Ida's headstone is on Find A Grave Memorial# 61457778 originally created by Robin & Beverly Kellison on Nov 11, 2010:

"The Cadet Rangers left Columbia for Richmond on May 17, 1864. On the first day of the Battle of Trevilian Station, June 11, 1864, General Wade Hampton saw that the artillery battery of Captain James F. Hart (Citadel '57) was about to be overrun. The cavalry chief dashed to the right of the 6th South Carolina Cavalry and saw the only company ready to attack was that of the Cadet Rangers under the command at the time of Lieutenants Alfred Aldrich and William J. Nettles. General Hampton rode to their front and "personally led them in a fierce charge" whose shock broke the advancing Federal line and saved Hart's guns."

"Col. Alfred Aldrich, the well known Barnwell planter, writes the Department of Agriculture: 'I am not going to plant any cotton the coming season, nothing but grain, and I want to sell some corn in advance, if possible, to distilleries and other steady consumers of corn. I have found that there is moire profit in corn at 75 cents per bushel than in cotton at 12 cents per pound, and corn does not exact such a heavy toll from the land.'" General Notes: Husband -

"Milledge Lipscomb Bonham, the son of Milledge Luke Bonham, married, as you know, Martha "Daisy" Aldrich, a daughter of Alfred Proctor Aldrich and his wife Martha Anna Ayer. Milledge Lipscomb Bonham wrote that his wife Daisy was never called Martha and was known just as Daisy all her life, so much so that few knew her real name. As you also know, Daisy's brother, Robert Aldrich, married Milledge Lipscomb Bonham's sister, Sophie Smith Bonham. Milledge and Daisy Bonham named one of their 3 children Milledge Louis Bonham. I have never found a hint of where the name Louis came from, but I suspect Milledge Lipscomb Bonham enjoyed the thought of again changing the middle name while keeping the initial letter of the middle name the same.
Milledge Lipscomb Bonham was chief justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court." (Charles Andrews, 7.09.2006)

"Milledge Lipscomb Bonham 1854-1943
Milledge Bonham served as Judge of the Tenth Circuit from 1924-1931, as an Associate Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court from 1931-1940, and as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1940-1943.
He practiced law in Anderson. He was married to Miss Daisy Aldrich and, following her death, he married Dr. Lillian L. Carter.
He was prominent in politics, fraternal orders, church activities, historical societies, social organizations and organized Bar efforts.
The respect accorded him as a man and able lawyer is evidenced by the fact that he was not a member of the Legislature when elevated to the Bench.
"Like the leaders of the Old South, he too, made as his greatest contribution grace and nobility of Character."

General Notes: Husband -

Darling DUNCAN married Rosa ADLRICH, his second cousin, daughter of Judge Alfred P. ALDRICH of Barnwell County, South Carolina. They had two sons, Robert and Alfred, named in the book Our Family Circle. They likely divorced before 1870, when Rosa, named as Mrs. R. DUNCAN, and her sons live in her father's home. In 1880 Rosa, using her maiden name, has Robert and Alfred with her, living in the home of her father, and the boys are using the surname ALDRICH.

General Notes: Wife -

Mary Myra ALEXANDER married Phillip T. Raiford on Jan. 20, 1874.

In Cemeteries of Marshall County, Mississippi, Byhalia Cemetery, pages 48 - 50, is a grave indexed as:
"RAIFORD, Mary M., Nov. 24, 1850-May 18, 1875"

QUESTION: From the date of birth, this appears to be Mary Myra ALEXANDER, wife of Phillip T. RAIFORD, BUT the 1880 census shows Myra, 29, alive and mother of C. Cecil RAIFORD, age 1. Myra is deceased before the 1900 census, might her year of death have been misread or typed, 1885 or 1895?
