General Notes: Husband - George NICHOLSON

In looking over Dian's NICHOLSONS I see the reason she and I began corresponding. In early Princess Anne Co, VA there is a POOLE who m. NICHOLSON.
Apparently, George NICHOLSON, b. 1700 +(early) m. a Lydia BRICKHOUSE. He is Dian's first George, probably he is the one who died in Nash Co, NC, 1773. However, George is mentioned as a witness in both Edgecombe and Halifax Counties, NC records. In the Nash County will, George names a son, Wright NICHOLSON (d. Edgefield Dist., SC). George of Nash County also names a daughter Lydia LEWIS, bringing this name down from Lydia BRICKHOUSE (seen as BRIGHOUSE/BRIGHTHOUSE in Princess Anne records).
Lydia NICHSOLSON leaves a will in Nash, 1782 and only names son, Josiah...perhaps the others are gone/married now.
Dian's POOLE line is a Richard POOLE of Princess Anne/Norfolk Counties, VA.
Princess Anne County County Records (VA) Deed Books 6 & 7 and Minute Books 6 & 7, 1740-1862
"19 June 1753 Recorded and dated the same day - William NICHOLSON by his last will and testament bequeathed to his two sons, George NICHOLSON & Lemuel NICHOLSON and the same land that William NICHOLSON ( son to the foresaid William NICHOLSON) and father to Malachi NICHOLSON purchased of the aforesaid George NICHOLSON, his brother." Note: Had to be an attorney who prepared this record. (aep)
I think George and Lemuel had begun their migration by the time of this record above. No other mention of them in my books.
Audrey [Poole]

Dian descends from George NICHOLSON. Shemuel is, at times, seen as Samuel and Lemuel, all in Halifax and Edgecome Counties, NC, and seen as Shinnel on the will of Wright NICHOLSON of Edgefield. Audrey
"PG. 482 GEORGE NICHOLSON of Edgecombe Co, (NC) to LEMUEL NICHOLSON of Edge. "South Carolina, Saluda County.
Personally comes the undersigned, John Threewits Nicholson, who on oath says that he is now 87 years of age and was born and reared in Edgefield county, and has for a long number of years resided where he now lives, to wit, near Ridge Spring, in Saluda County. That Saluda county was formed out of Edgefield county. That deponent has heard his father and mother state that they had seen and talked with numerous people who knew Emily Geiger or knew of Emily Geiger. That deponents mother was a Threewits and it was the common reputation in the family of deponent's father and mother that Emily Geiger married John Threewits, a blood relative of deponent's mother and of deponent. Furthermore, that it was the general reputation in deponent's mother's family that Emily Geiger carried a message during the Revolutionary War and was captured by the British while carrying said message. That after the Revolutionary War, it was the common reputation in his mother's family, and said reputation was accepted as being true, that she married John Threewits, and lived in Lexington County, a few miles west of Columbia, and died there.
John Threewits Nicholson.
Sworn to before me this Sep. 9, 1922, Henry C. Smith, Notary Public for S.C."

General Notes: Husband - Samuel NICHOLSON

Audrey

Dian descends from George NICHOLSON. Shemuel is, at times, seen as Samuel and Lemuel, all in Halifax and Edgecome Counties, NC, and seen as Shinnel on the will of Wright NICHOLSON of Edgefield. Audrey

BELOVED HUSBAND
ALFRED NIEZYCHOWSKI
JULY 18, 1888 - JUNE 13, 1964

Wikipedia presents this obituary and history with numerous citations, more requested:
Alfred Graf von Niezychowski (July 28, 1888 \endash June 13, 1964) was a German Count of Polish descent, a Lieutenant Commander of a German commerce raider ship during World War I, an author and lecturer, and a Michigan political candidate for public office.
Niezychowski's father died when he was nine years old. Two years later, his mother, now 37 years old, married the 29-year-old Count Rodryg Dunin, and had four more children. They lived on the Granówko estate, near Poznań. Niezychowski was educated at the German military school at Wahlstadt, Silesia, and at the naval schools at Danzig (Gdańsk) and Kiel.
As an adult, Niezychowski joined the German merchant marine of the Hamburg-American Line, and was an officer on such ships as the Hamburg-American liner Victoria Louise and the North German Lloyd liner Prinzess Irene in 1914, before being transferred to his most famous assignment, the German passenger liner Kronprinz Wilhelm, where he held the rank of Lieutenant. He was later promoted to Lieutenant Commander in the German naval reserve and became second in command. The ship was one of the fastest in the world, having won the Blue Riband a few years earlier for the fastest-ever Atlantic crossing, in 5 days, 11 hours, and 57 minutes.
Germany entered World War I in August 1914, while the ship was in port in New York City, and the Kronprinz Wilhelm was ordered into service with the Imperial German Navy as an auxiliary cruiser. She left port and rendezvoused with the SMS Karlsruhe to have deck guns installed, and then spent the next 251 days capturing and sinking commercial vessels off the coast of South America, while simultaneously evading capture by the Allies. The ship eventually ran out of supplies, and dozens of the men in her crew had become sick with beri-beri from the restricted diet on the long voyage. Her captain headed for Virginia, and successfully evading the British ships guarding the port, entered safe harbor at Newport News, in 1915. At the Norfolk Navy Yard, the ship and crew were originally interned as neutrals by the United States, until that country entered the war in 1917. At that time, Niezychowski and the rest of the crew became American prisoners of war and the ship was officially seized by the US Navy. Renamed the USS Von Steuben, she was turned into a troopship.
Despite officially being a prisoner of the United States, Niezychowski was evidently quite a popular storyteller among influential Americans, partially because he was the nephew of Baron Ladislaus Hengelmüller von Hengervár, who had been Austro-Hungarian ambassador to the United States for decades, until retiring in 1913. Niezychowski was known as the "jolly Polish count" and after his release from Fort McPherson, Georgia in August 1919, he moved to Washington DC, where he was welcomed into diplomatic and society circles.[1] He was also President of the Polish American Navigation Company of New York.
In October 1923, Niezychowski became engaged to Nanine H. Ulman (1896-1972), a Baltimore socialite and Colonial Dame, daughter of Jacob A. Ulman of Helmore Farms in Green Spring Valley, and great grandniece of President Thomas Jefferson. Niezychowski renounced his European titles, became an American citizen in January 1926, and married on December 27, 1927. Admiral Walter McLean, commander of the Norfolk Navy Yard where his ship had been interned ten years earlier, was his best man.
After his wedding, Niezychowski and his wife moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he entered the business world. First he worked as a salesman with a printing and advertising company, and later with the Seldon & Johnson real estate firm. In 1928, he published a book about the Kronprinz Wilhelm's 251-day adventure, and gave lectures on the subject.[2] He was known for signing autographs with green ink, and one of his lecture taglines was that of all of the ships that had been sunk during the ship's wartime duty, it had never caused the loss of a single human life. The capturing and sinking had been done in a very civilized, even courteous, manner. Passengers who had been taken aboard from a captured vessel were often given first class accommodations aboard the ex-passenger liner (members of the crew, received second class cabins), until they could be transferred to another ship.
In 1932, while in the investment brokerage business, Niezychowski ran as a Democratic candidate for the Michigan First District. He was a staunch Democrat, and wanted to fight for the immediate repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment, as well as lowering tariff laws to restore foreign trade. However, he lost in the primary election to George G. Sadowski.[3]
Niezychowski and Nanine had no biological children, though Niezychowski did become guardian for the children of his half-brother Count Antoni Dunin, after both Antoni and his wife Zofia Werner Dunin (daughter of Polish vice-Finance Minister Edward Werner) had been killed in 1939, during the German offensive in the Invasion of Poland. According to the Detroit News, Alfred worked with Senator Homer Ferguson of Michigan, to obtain visas so that the orphaned children could enter the United States in the 1940s. They were:
Count Stanley Dunin, who later participated in a NASA project, launching the world's first geosynchronous communications satellite
Countess Magda Dunin Hirata, who later married Japanese-American scientist Arthur Hirata
Countess Christine Dunin Zika, later the mother of noted botanist Peter Zika
In 1964 Niezychowski died in Michigan, and was buried in Mount Elliott Cemetery in Grosse Pointe.
Count Alfred von Niezychowki, authored "The Cruise of the Kronprinz Wilhelm", 1928, Doubleday & Company, with introductions by Admiral Walter McLean (commandant of the Virginia Norfolk Navy Yard where the Kronprinz Wilhelm was interned), and Count Felix von Luckner
The memorial lists his birth in Posen, Poland and his death in Michigan

The Kronprinz Wilhelm, as an auxiliary cruiser, sank 15 ships and captured 16 ships during 1914-1915.

DeSoto Parish, Louisiana; Biography: James W. Nolan - n450
Source: Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Northwest Louisiana
The Southern Publishing Company, Chicago & Nashville, 1890
---------------------------------------------------------------------
James W. Nolan was reared to a knowledge farm life by his father, James Nolan, and like the majority of farmers' boys he has followed in his ancestor's footsteps, and is now one of the leading agriculturists of this parish. He is a native of Wilkes County, Ga., where he was born in 1837, and until eighteen years of age, at which time the father died, he remained under the shelter of the paternal roof, his mother, whose maiden name was Almedia Florence, having died when he was twelve years old. The father was born in Virginia in 1780, being a son of George Nolan, who was of English descent, a Revolutionary soldier, and died in his native State of Virginia. The mother was born in Lincoln County, Ga., in which State her father, Thomas Florence, was born and spent his life, being a tiller of the Soil. James W. Nolan was the first of three sons and three daughters, and received a good education in his youth at Washington, Ga., also spending one term in the University of Virginia at Charlotteville. In 1859 he came to De Soto Parish, La., and farmed until the opening of the war. He was married in 1861 to Miss Mary Fannie, daughter of Benjamin W. and Julia Pearson, the former a native of Raleigh, N. C., and the latter of Camden, Ala., their marriage taking place in Montgomery, of the latter State. They came to De Soto Parish in 1840, the father dying in 1876, aged about seventy-two, and the mother still living, at the age of seventy-three years, a worthy member of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Nolan was born at Fort Jessup, Sabine Parish, La., in 1840, and is the third of eleven children, and the mother of thirteen children, ten sons and two daughters living. Mr. Nolan served for a short time in the Confederate army in Shelly's battalion, which was afterward merged into the Crescent Regiment, and held the rank of sergeant. After the war he spent four years as a merchant of Mansfield, but has since devoted his attention to farming, being the owner of about 1,800 acres, with 600 cleared. He is also operating a saw, grist-mill and cotton gin, in all of which enterprises he is doing well. He and his wife have been members in good standing of the Methodist Church for a long time, and for many years he has been a member of the A. F. & A. M. 184
