With all of the other names in your lineage making connections to some of our families, I'm beginning to wonder if our Julia MC DANIELS belongs somewhere. We don't really know for sure that she was a MC DANILES/MC DANAL/DANAL (seen in cemeteries of AL, various spellings), but there was a Nancy MC DANIELS living in the household with Julia, 1850 census, Sumter Co, AL. Man shoots Wife, Kills Self in Siege by Brad Holt
A Temple Hills man apparently killed himself with a shotgun yesterday after wounding his wife and exchanging shots with a police detective following a domestic dispute, Prince Georges County police said. They said the man shot at the detective as he arrived at the home and the policeman returned fire, wounding thew man in the leg. Linwood Hudson [sic] McGinniss, 55, of the 3600 block of Portal Avenue, was found inside his home with a shotgun wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at Prince Georges General Hospital. His wife, Dorothy Marie, 54, was in satisfactory condition last night at Cafritz Memorial Hospital with a shotgun wound in the back. A neighbor, Loretta Migliaccio, said that about 11:40 a.m, yesterday Mrs. McGinniss came to her house and asked to use her telephone to call police. Mrs. McGinniss said her life had been threatened by her husband and that he had ripped out their phone, Mrs. Migliacco said. General Notes: Wife - Dorothy Marie SHAW

Dorothy Shaw, daughter of W. F. Shaw and Julia Cooley, was born 12 April 1919 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. She was the first child for both W. F. and Julia. W. F., age 40, was born in Gainsville, Texas and was a merchant. Julia, age 21, was born in Chilton, Texas, and was a housewife. Both were residents of Dallas, Texas. ["Texas Birth Certificates, 1903-1935,"]

My grandmother, Dorothy Marie Shaw McGinniss, may be a descendant of their son Willis F. Shaw. She was born in April, 1919. Her mother was Julia Ruth Cooley. On all available records, her father went by the initials W. F. Shaw. Her parents divorced in 1923 and Mr. Shaw was never heard from again. A DNA match on Family Tree DNA recently let me to a possible connection with William H. Shaw and the Halbert family. [Jeff Clark]

Dorothy's mother married second Clyde L. Holloway.

Lindwood Hampto(n) McGinniss and Dorothy Marie Shaw;s daughter, Linda Marie McGinniss, was born 17 Feb 1944 in Dallas County, Texas. ["Texas Birth Index, 1903-1997,"

Dorothy is listed as a surviving [step] "daughter, Mrs. J. [sic] H. McGinniss of Washington, D.C." in the July 1952 obituary of Clyde L. Holloway, Sr.

Dorothy McGinniss, born 12 Apr 1919, resided in Temple Hills, Maryland, 1985-2004; Annapolis, Maryland, 1994-2005; Leland, North Carolina, 2005-2009. Possible Relatives: Linwood McGinniss. Record Number 141835576. ["United States Public Records, 1970-2009,"]
