JOHN POPE
BORN
MAY 11, 1809
DIED
MARCH 15, 1887

General Notes: Wife - Edna MASSEY

Edna "Edney" MASSEY married John POPE. The marriage record at FamilySearch.org lists her maiden name as "MARCY" which may be a misread of the handwritten Massy or Massey. In 1850, Daniel POPE, age 7, is in her household. In 1860 he is Daniel MASSEY, age 18, and believed to be Edna's brother, not one of her and John's children. Daniel was born before Edna married John POPE.

She is buried as "Edney" in Harmony Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Brooks County, Georgia. A picture of her headstone is on Find A Grave Memorial# 45850663 created by Robert Strickland on Dec 27, 2009:

General Notes: Child - Marmaduke POPE

Marmaduke POPE, age 2, is named in the 1850 census, but is not in the family in 1860, presumed to have died young.

General Notes: Child - Emily M. POPE

Emily "Emma" M. POPE, born about 1849, was a daughter of John and Edna POPE, age 21 in the 1870 census of Brooks County, Georgia. Most records name Emily as Emma. She married John Levi DANIELL on 2 July 1873 in Brooks County, Georgia.

Emma M. DANIELL is buried in Bethel Cemetery, Maypearl, Ellis County, Texas. A picture of her headstone on Find A Grave Memorial# 52496110, created by: KB on May 17, 2010, reads:

HE GIVETH HIS BELOVED SLEEP
EMMA M.
WIFE OF J. L. DANIELL
BORN JAN. 20, 1849
DIED MAR. 30, 1891
Gone from our home
But not from our hearts

The Sept 3, 1956 death certificate of Jessie Daniell Johnson in Waxahachie, Ellis Co. TX, names her parents, J. L. Daniell & Emily Pope. [FamilySearch. org, Film Number: 2114933, Digital Film Number: 4032107, Image Number: 3052, Reference Number: cn 47307 Collection: Texas Deaths, 1890-1976]

John Levi Daniell is also buried in Elm Branch (Bardwell) Cemetery in Ellis County.

Related to the family of Emma POPE, wife of John Levi DANIELL? A nephew? Emily POPE had a brother, Daniel POPE, born about 1842. Did Emily and John accompany part of her family to Texas?
